WH10 CD vs Peizo

#1 Post by Keryn O'Shea »

G'day gents,
I'm about to head into WH builds, with the 10 first up.
Can anyone shed light on pros & cons of the CD HF option?
Would l be right to say the WH10 (MA+2510) fitted with a pole mount, could do double duty as a top for a pair of subs? If you're just looking for background music at a gathering, lower level PA.

You can use it in both applications with either configuration. The difference is width of the dispersion angle.

Excellent :)
Would the order for widest to narrowest WH HF dispersion be: Panel- Melded- CD?
Is the reason for omitting the WH10 CD horn second flare building ease, or close distance to the performer?
Could the WH8 be stretched to low level top duty also, crossing over at 110Hz?

I'm thinking of adding the second flare and diffuser rod to the the WH10 CD horn, as l have enough stock of GT1016s to complete pairs of the WH8 & 6, but not all three models of WH.
Reason being 1016s end up at around Au$8ea to us, & l have plenty of CDs here. I'd prefer not to use the Daichi 1016 version available to us here.
Would the loss of horizontal dispersion using CDs vs MA be large? Keeping in mind, you'll have WH6&8s to use for the close monitoring also..

You can do that. I didn't bother as the somewhat higher sensitivity and wider dispersion tends to be not an issue when used as a floor wedge.

Checking in before l marry the horn to the flare & continue on with the shell, are you seeing any problems?

Looks good, if there's enough clearance to fit the HF driver.

I applaud you taking on WH10s. I built three of them many years ago - not an easy build with all of the combination miters.

Looks good.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Ok great, yes there's plenty, using an ASD1001B equivalent. Thank you

Thanks Bruce, yes l read your post on cutting the miter angles with a table saw, that'll definitely help others.
I'm using a track saw which l think makes those cuts easier.
The lower diffuser bracket has been the most challenging peice of this build so far, the only dimension which hasn't changed is the 1.5" side where it meets the horn, its been stretched & has opposing angles & taken a couple of attempts to get right. In assembly l've added a degree or two so it's not resting flat on the cabs horn mouth. I want the diffuser brackets to sit square so there's zero tension when screwed down at fitting.
A second laminated peice added & I'll use the mitre saw to correct the angle instead of removing material on the single peice & weakening the bracket.

I may build the next CD horn in the mouth of the cab if l can find a way of holding the mouth reflectors in place while the adhesive sets, or just add a laminated peice from the start.
