Re: Shoot-out - BFM Omni10 vs LDS 15/6/1

I think that my implied question in my original post got missed, so I'll try asking it directly. I really love the tone of my bass through my O10 and my O10.5. But - in some situations I want more low end, and using them together doesn't fully meet that need. and - I don't want to haul a Titan. Is t...

Re: Shoot-out - BFM Omni10 vs LDS 15/6/1

I'm not a bigtime graph-reading expert... And of course the chart is comparing the O10 to 2 flavors of O15. Does it suggest (I'm looking at the relative parallel-ism of the curves) that the obsoleted O15 (with the 3015LF) would sound a lot like the O10, only louder and with more low end? The newer O...

Shoot-out - BFM Omni10 vs LDS 15/6/1

Prelude: I wrote and posted this thread on TB. Some of the data (like the explanation of what the O10 is) is redundant for this forum, but I didn't want to rewrite it.<end prelude> I finally got a chance to A/B my two "somewhat unusual" cabinets - a BFM Omni10 "widebody" and an ...

Re: Omni 10.5 for small gigs - unqualified success!

The only pic I have is of the "Omni 310 stack" - my Omni 10 and my 10.5. I used Deltalites and the recommended tweeters (from Leland). No filter components, per the original plans. http://www.doumbek.com/personal/omnistack_s.jpg I went with 4 tweeters in each. If I stack them, I just use t...

Omni 10.5 for small gigs - unqualified success!

I know that the O10's are "very old news" around here, but I wanted to share anyway. This week I had a couple of back to back gigs - first on KKUP radio, and the following evening at Mission City Coffee Roasting (both in San Jose). The O10.5 was an absolute delight, paired with a Genz Benz...

Duratex offgassing - how long?

For you experienced builders - how long before Duratex stops offgassing?
My cab was sprayed on Thurs. I'm still smelling fumes - pretty mild, but still present.
How long before the duratex stops offgassing and I'm fume-free? My wife is pretty chemical-sensitive, so it's pretty important.

Thanks!

Re: Testing speaker polarity

Well, in a fit of cleverness generally unseen in these parts, I realized that I could test the polarity before I closed the box back up. Everything works a treat!

Re: Testing speaker polarity

Short of chopping up a speakon cable (or making a half-cable) - any suggestions?
I don't have a spare cable or a spare speakon plug at the moment.
I was thinking that I could play with O10 plugged in, and add the O10.5 - if it gets louder, then polarity is correct.

Testing speaker polarity

Sorry if this is plain dumb... I'm adding a second cab (O10.5 to my 010) for the first time in a lot of years. I'm installing a speakon jack. I recall from way back that it's useful to test polarity and make sure the speakers are in phase. Back then, it was all 1/4" jacks or banana plugs, so th...

General question about acoustic damping...

Now that my O10 is done, there's a question I've been wondering. I was pretty darn thorough about putting damping throughout (hooray for mattress topping...) And I've read here that damping is an area where commercial speaker mfg's sometimes skimp. I can see how damping would prevent the soundwaves ...

Carpet and grill - staples?

When carpeting a cab, do you use anything besides glue for the interior edges (like staples or something)?
Or just glue it and leave it?

Also, do you use staples on the grill cloth (Omni10) or some other fastener?

"Breaking in" speakers

I read in another thread about "breaking in" drivers with a 30 hz tone for 20-30 hrs.
How necessary is this (vs. just playing at low volumes for the first 30 hrs or use or so)?
THanks...
