Thanks! My band mate said "that cab looks like it would wear a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches" haha
First Jack15 build
Re: First Jack15 build
Gave it one Duratex coat with the foam texture roller, let it dry a couple hours, then gave it a second coat and blotted it with a plastic bag to give it a bit of a faux leather type texture. I wasn't super excited by the roller texture.
Attached the corners and handles this morning. Next up is foam inside, gasket for the back, and then the wiring.

I like that faux leather plastic bag look. Great job!

Re: First Jack15 build
I've always used the textured rollers that I bought from Leland at Speakerhardware years ago. If you don't like the sharp points, then lightly go back over it with just the weight of the roller....it will give it a really nice pebbled texture and looks just like a store-bought cab.Aaron315 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 8:39 am Gave it one Duratex coat with the foam texture roller, let it dry a couple hours, then gave it a second coat and blotted it with a plastic bag to give it a bit of a faux leather type texture. Those are the ones I used. It was definitely too rough for my liking...felt a bit like sandpaper. I'm really happy with this faux leather look.Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 11:16 amI've always used the textured rollers that I bought from Leland at Speakerhardware years ago. Got the foam glued and stapled. I haven't decided where I want to mount the crossover so that bottom piece of foam isn't attached yet.
Where do most people attach it? Inside the cab on the bottom? Or attached to the back panel?

Yep, if you don't go back over it - dry-rolling it very lightly with just the weight of the roller - it will definitely feel like sandpaper. Your finish looks good....and if you're happy, that's all that matters.

I have a feeling there's going to be more building in my future to upgrade our practice space PA. I'll give that a go on those builds.Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 2:33 pmYep, if you don't go back over it - dry-rolling it very lightly with just the weight of the roller - it will definitely feel like sandpaper. Re: First Jack15 build
Had a bunch of 22 gauge wire on hand from tinkering around with guitar pedals so I used that for the piezo array.
Re: First Jack15 build
You can put it anywhere it fits, but take a look at the Sketchup file if you want a little inspiration.

Re: First Jack15 build
I decided to mount it inside the cab on the bottom. I was originally thinking about mounting it on the back panel closer to the jacks but decided it didn't make sense to have additional weight on the back panel and be fighting gravity.
Unfortunately I got bit by a tick over the weekend and developed a case of Lyme disease, got antibiotics on Monday, but I'm feeling like a pile of garbage at the moment so I probably won't be getting this thing buttoned up until I'm back on my feet.

Note that in the sketchups that show the filters on the bottom that's for pole mounted PA mains. For electric bass mine are on the back. In both cases so are the jacks.

Is there a reason for that, Bill?Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Wed Jul 16, 2025 9:21 pm Note that in the sketchups that show the filters on the bottom that's for pole mounted PA mains. For electric bass mine are on the back. In both cases so are the jacks.
Re: First Jack15 build
I'm using a dual speakon + dual 1/4" jackplate just for maximum flexibility. What gauge wire should I use to make all the parallel connections between the four inputs? Is 18awg heavy enough? Could I get away with 22awg for the parallel connections and the heavier gauge Leland supplied connecting the paralleled jacks to the crossover and the crossover to the speaker?

Re: First Jack15 build
Are you using enclosed 1/4" jacks? If not, you'll want some plugs....otherwise, you'll have an air leak. 18ga is fine for short runs inside the cab.Aaron315 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 7:45 am I'm using a dual speakon + dual 1/4" jackplate just for maximum flexibility.
