-1, I'm afraid. A J array should have the lowermost speakers tilted downward, the uppermost aimed at the furthest point of the coverage area, not the other way around. And as sooner or later someone will bring up the insufficient distance between the sub stacks to prevent power alley effects, I just did.

Oh ya, there can be changes. Subs could be farther apart, they look close to 53'. Tops too low, subs should be together, and of the same type cabinets. We could go on and on...

But, I was admiring how he connected the 3 DR's. Look how he use's adjustable rods on the side of the DR250's. To adjust for height. Then the Aluminum plate for the base. That is where credit is due. Let alone building 6, if he/she was the builder. Pat on the back piet

I'm interested to know where the subs should go, and how they should be stacked in this scenario. It's plain to see why everyone does it wrong all the time given commercial offerings and general lack of knowledge in the PA set-up arena. ...Plus what support solutions can people suggest for elevating/positioning the DR's, and what height they should be etc. My view on the latter is light weight aluminium scaffold to get elevation and have the array inside the foot print of the scaffold, or more elegantly, a vertically oriented aluminium (triangular in cross section) truss behind the DR stack and hang them on the front of it, with the truss fixed to an adequate base.

Well, that is often the problem. The environment in which you place your speakers limits your options and when you are outdoors, this can leave more complications than indoors when you factor in security and safety.

In that situation, I would have probably set it up just the same. I understand the power alley problems but what else are you to do other than cut the frequency? Some people probably like the power alley (you crazy bass nuts!) but the top pointing down at the top probably does need working on.

I think we often struggle on here with the difference between perfectly acceptable for the crown being played to and audio eliteness. As long as we understand the best way of doing things and why, common sense can fill the other gaps.

Charles, do all the UK users have profile pictures like we are trapped behind something? :noob:

Well.

A quad of end-firers would fit under that stage, pointing straight out. Would that be better?

TBH, I think I was influenced by your profile pic. The problem only exists when we post next to one another. From memory, 'escape' isn't bound by the same inhibitions as us.

I find it funny when the two of you are having a discussion like this. You are both from the UK, the avatar pics are similar color and both trapped behind something. At first sight it tends to look to me like someone talking to himself.

subs all across the front, vertical, deployed curved pattern for cardoid, or delay compensated for cardiod pattern. I assume the tops DR280s are pointed down because a stack of that height was giving them wayyy too much coverage in the long throw game (probably running into someone elses soundspace). if they stacked the dr's on top of scaffolds of shorter height than their 4 sub stacks, they could either properly J array them, or just keep them all facing straight out ( i assume no j array due to insufficient power amp channels for powershading)
