Table Tuba LS Build

#1 Post by Chompy191 »

Starting building my TTLS 16" wide,
using 12mm MDF
Selleys Liquid Nails Platinum
Dayton DCS205-4
10-32 mounting kit from Parts Express

So far so good, I have been checking for any leaks
with the torch method and have been unable to detect
any. I had to redo the baffle because I cut out the hole
measuring from the wrong side :cussing:
T-nuts worked nicely and baffle has been installed.

I didn't see anything on Selleys website about how the Liquid Nails Platinum expands. Hope you don't have any leaks. :chainsaw:

Another site suggested that it expanded slightly, but the 3/8" expansion of PL isn't what I'd call only "slightly" expanding.

That sucker is going to be heavy! Clean build so far.

On Selley's website it says "expands slightly as it cures"
It is polyurethane based and a few people have used it before.
So should have better results than PVA adhesive anyway.
I used MDF because it was 1/2 the price, no warping and
voids or gaps to worry about and I wont be moving it around much.
Plywood when I built the THT

You're taking a hell of a risk not using the good glue.
BAT10, Bad Auto Tuba. Reverse folded TAT to fit JBL 1014D, 350W driver, voltage limit unknown.

I'm really interested in this build. I think this design would work good behind a sofa.
Or my buddy wants a raised 2nd row to his "home theater" AKA basement. I think this would work nice under that. Oh two of 'em 8)
2 - OTop8
2 - T39
8 - DR200
2 - DR250
9 - T24
6 - T45
1 - Auto Tuba

second day of the build and up to panel 9.
I got my MDF cut to width at Bunnings Warehouse
but what i'm using for panel 10 got cut 1/8" wider than the rest.
I might install it then belt sand it down before installing
the side panel. Circular saw is too much of a risk.
Building this for my room setup :) hopefully an improvement
over the pioneer ported 12" car sub i'm currently using.

How much to get the Dayton shipped to Aus?

Also, regarding the adhesive - there have been a few discussions about SLN Platinum - it's been used and reccomended by others who have done side-by-side comparisons with PL Premium... so no worries there

Cost ~$135 with shipping but also bought a 10-32 mounting kit.
Shipping was $80 and arrived in a week. No complaints about the
liquid nails so far, seems very solid and cant find any leaks.

Yeah but isn't the Selleys $16 a pop at Bunnings?
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

There is also Uno-Bond. Which I have first hand experience with. It expands a lot. Easily available in Aus.

getting close now :hyper: going to grab some more liquid nails
tomorrow as i'm getting low and don't want to risk running
out when installing the side panel. Need to paint the inside
black while its still accessible.
