sub bass safety.

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

sub bass safety.

#1 Post by Christian »

I would like to safely use my T36 to reproduce 20hz (and below) content. Generally I high pass at 30hz, but I have an occasion coming up that requires extra bass depth. Plus I'm just curious... We're gonna run a bunch of test tones and sweeps before the show, and I want the T36 to shine.

I'm planning on V-stacking (with plate) four T36. (Magnum and Definimax 15 loaded) According to the SPL charts 20hz at 100+ SPL shouldn't be a problem. I believe those numbers are "pre" V-plate technology as well...?

Is there a lower limit to what the driver can physically reproduce inside the horn? Can I still feed the driver 600 watts or should I dial that back a bit? Anything I need to do differently as far as limiting/compressing/crossing? I generally cross at 80 or 90 with the LR24 curve. Do I need to lower my crossover point to compensate for the additional stress of a lower HPF?

thanks.

T36 unloads below 22 Hz. More than 200 watts input below 22Hz runs the danger of exceeding xlim, damaging the driver.

Since we're gonna run a 4-pack, 200 watts is plenty for the testing portion of the evening.

Does "unloading" mean that the horn component of the design no longer functions below 22hz?

It is below both the horn fc and the rear chamber fb, so the roll off is at a 24dB/octave rate.

Is this the same for a 24" dual BP102 T24?

It unloads below 38 Hz.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am curious - does a single BP102/S2010 loaded 16' wide Tuba 24 unload at 38Hz? In other words, is it 38Hz because it is a dual loaded cab (essentially two in one?).

The unload frequency is relatively unaffected by the driver used.
