Limiter Settings for protecting drivers
Okay, to make sure I don't toast my new HL10a driver in my Tuba 24, I want to make sure I set my limiter on my Driverack 260 correctly. Here's my logic: HL10a is a 300w RMS unit @ 8 ohms. I've read that some people believe it doesn't hit power compression until 400w in a T24. I have a Mackie FR2600 ...

You know, not to be an ass, but I haven't found any ooze problems with PL Premium - Maybe it's because I do a lot of caulking, and I'm familiar with using spray foam (talk about ooze and drip there!). No gloves, no mess on hands, no problems. I've got some smooth 1 pass PL joints that don't need any...

Ah, this may work best on a Tuba then - You can't fire it up properly until you're done (unless you want to keep reinstalling and removing the driver) and by then, how do you get to the areas deep inside to fix your mistakes? :-) Many checks can be made, this is a quick one you can do while it's sti...

Checking for Air Leaks with a Halogen Work Light
Hey, Try shining a halogen work light inside your build, and check the seams from the outside in a dark room. You may be surprised that your caulk/PL has a few hairline cracks or pinholes. If you've got a good tight seal, you shouldn't be able to see light through the seams. I found a few little spo...

They don't work, tripping either too early or too late. Having a limiter in your rack is a must. Ah, that's why no one is talking about them.. okay. I do have a limiter in my electronic crossover (DBX Driverack), was thinking of building in more protection just in case. I guess you can never make s...

Speaker Circuit Breakers
Hey, are these a good idea? Are they known to colour the sound?

Should you pick a 300w breaker for a 300RMS/600WMusic speaker like the HL10a?

That's very interesting on the tonal qualities of the various tweeters. I only have limited experience with piezo tweeters, having heard them on some mid-range car 6x9 speakers, and then for a direct radiator type of PA system I built before stumbling on Bill's site. What I used in the past was a pa...

Compiling General Build Knowledge
Hey all, I'm getting ready to build my first BFD cabs (Tuba, DR250) and I've been sifting through the forums trying to learn as much as I need to know. I've got a few pointers here that I'd like to get confirmation on, maybe have someone expand on them a bit. If people wish, I'd happily refine all t...
