Re: I need a good handheld tone generator

Buy a used Android phone on Craigslist or pick up a new cheap android tablet at a store. You do not have to activate the phone onto a cell network to use WiFi or run apps. Then use Audio tool app, it has a decent generator. Will not give you a "reference" level but fine for breaking in drivers and p...

Re: stacking Otop12s side by side?

I played many a "short wall" gig where most of the audience was out to the sides. I have set a second pair of oTops on stands behind my primary pair aiming out to the sides but took great care to avoid overlapping patterns and adjusting volumes appropriate for the coverage.

Re: Self nomination for village idiot..

It will work, but will be more prone to peeling and chipping during moves. Get some good Duratex coats on it and use durable corners. I added sacrificial strips of hard wood to my subs, 1/2 inch wide by 3/16 thick ASH strips up the backs so when the subs were lifted up stairs or into a trailer the b...

Re: Excessive ads on the mobile site (this post contains large images)

I am glad someone posted about this. Picked up a new phone yesterday and of course I come here to test the browser. RATS! I started to think the phone browser was inserting ads into the BFM site. I was getting ready to return the phone until I noticed the ads were not on other sites, so I thought it...

Re: What db level/what cabs to keep up with a drum kit?

One Otop12 and 2 T39s per side work for me in most venues up to a couple hundred people for rock / pop and country. I work with one drummer who hits his tubs like they owe him money, and often have to mix around his snare, where it may hit 95 decibels at the back wall of a venue with no amplificatio...

Re: How to TEST a USED amp?

I usually test one channel at a time. I connect a source like a phone, but preferably a phone through a mixer, and play music into the amp. I use a multi-meter on outputs before connecting to any speaker to make sure the amp isn't spitting out any constant or harmful voltage. With no music playing a...

Re: Champion Sound for Columbus Ohio

If you want to hear some T39's I have 4 in Akron Ohio (and 4 Otops). I may also be interested in selling them. I am not running my PA as much as I used to. Really the debate on how much low end is enough and how low do they go compared to your music content can be answered easily with a good listen....

Re: Shopping for a New Mixer

I was a Yamaha digital mixer user for many years, 01v, DM1000, DM2000, M7CL, PM5D. The x32 was sort of forced upon me and I have used both the Soundcraft and A&H digital desks form time to time. For the money I would go with an X32 rack and a digital snake. In fact I bought my own after operating a ...

Re: line array coupling

Woodsy's music store in Kent Ohio also has a PA company they operate. This is their rig. L-Acoustic VDOSC line arrays (9 tops per side) on ground standing crank lifts. They had six SB218 subs in a center cluster and 2 dV-Subs and a couple L-A tops per side for filling the outside wings, and a couple...

Re: line array coupling

The rig with the line array cabs on their side was not my rig, so we had to take what they had already set up. Next year we will rent a decent line array or possibly not play the gig. This weekend it was nice to mix out of doors on a well set up rig. I can raise the thresholds on my input compressor...

I hesitate to say. He (the namesake) is from Pittsburgh and is a "Nashville" recording artist playing regionally in the area of western PA, Ohio and WV. Nice folks, all of them, and I wasn't going to bash them about the speaker setup as we may have to work with them in the future. Last year we rente...

Re: line array coupling

They usually run two of the subs per side and put the pair of VRX on a pole above them for their indoor gigs. I don't believe they have the rigging to suspend them from anything. I think they combined two separate systems for this event and no, they aren't a "sound" company in the traditional sense,...
