Re: Multimeter recommendation?

Corona, I've always used a DMM to test a car battery. Unless I've been doing it wrong...... 1. Battery voltage at rest 2. Battery voltage at start up (shouldn't drop below 9 volts or so??....chart is in garage) this is the "load" test 3. Voltage when running to,test alternator. There's a f...

Re: Multimeter recommendation?

Thanks for the responses guys.

It's confusing because you'd think a fluke would have more features than a 25 dollar MM.

I have no problem spending a few hundred dollars, but if I can get away with 25, or 50, even better!

Can you plug a clamp into, any meter, or only certain ones?

Multimeter recommendation?

Hi guys, it's been a few years. Hope everyone is doing well! Anyways I've been through a few cheapo meters over the years. It's time for a new meter, mostly for testing batteries, car batteries/alternators, guitar cables....that sort of thing. I'm also going to be playing around with some solar powe...

Re: Repair amp, or buy new?

I am not electronically inclined, so I guess it's time for a new amp. Maybe I'll go with a Dayton plate. Not too happy with the lifespan of the bash.

Thanks guys.

Re: Repair amp, or buy new?

Positive. I swapped it out with my stereo receiver, and the sub was working.

The amp turns on, and the auto turn on works, so it is getting a signal, but not sending it to the sub.

It powers up, but no sound goes to the sub.

Repair amp, or buy new?

So, my bash 300s from parts express crapped out.

Is it worth fixing, or should I buy new forn160? I only got just under 2 years out of it so I'm not convinced of its quality.

Maybe the larger model, or another brand?

Thoughts?

Re: David - Just For Fun

Are you using the recently updated David plans or going off the old ones? Ya the access cover looks to have a skinny section but I recall my tht also was skinny or so it seemed until the panel went uP. Strange though that the cut out demendions are not given when the side is cut. Further to crossove...

Re: David - Just For Fun

I almost think that reading the plans all the way through is a bad idea. At least for me anyway. Too easy to get all excited and think too far ahead. Just as Bill suggests to to one panel at a time I may read step one, cut panel and glue, then walk away. Next day same thing. The David is my next pro...

Re: Soldering tips/alternatives?

Tinning! Thanks for the reminder. Brings me back to shops class years ago.

Tinning has made it MUCH easier. Ditto for the clean tip, but I was already doing that.

I am using a pencil type iron. What do you recommend? And why?

Soldering tips/alternatives?

I am in the process of wiring up 2 tlah's, and 3 sla's. So far 1 box has taken 3 hours. I really suck at soldering, and this is absolutley the crappiest part of my build. It is extremely difficult to get the wire in the goldwood tweeters. Any tips? Can I use those push on things? Seems like the gold...

How is the quality of itunes HD movies?

Is it as good as bluray, or more like cable HD?

Re: Bluray, ps3, or apple tv? Or none of the above?

I have heard from others that a real blu ray wins hands down.

How is the ps3 as a bluray player?

I am thinking apple tv will be no more than as good as HD from cable video on demand.
