Slightly varied XF 212 test report
Do I ever build anything exact? :chainsaw: I left my XF212 loaded with celestion lead75's at the club as a backup amp for everyone. I've gotten 4 requests to build the from owners of Mesa, Soldano, Univox and musicman amps. I sent them to the BFM site. That should about sum it up. Personally I'm goi...

Loud tough spaces...exciters!
Were not talking electronic exciters, aural exciters, or other wacky phase tweakers. Difficult space tip: If its a really crappy room, and they want it freaking loud, throw some vocal exciter cabs into the OT array. If you are running passive boxes, all you need to do is split the system so that one...

Galaxy Audio Cricket Phase tester.
Speaking of phase. Its interesting to note that the Galaxy audio Cricket does not really work on melded arrays. It thinks they are in phase when they are not. It does work on straight arrays. Unfortunately it only senses 0 and 180, so those 90 degree shifts are in a blind spot. Just in case Anyone e...

Re: Kick Drum EQ questions
Throw the kick into a compressor/gate. Gate the damn thing to get some control over the feedback. Try cutting about 220-250 pretty deeply, push the 80 up a touch (as that mixer has 80, my Sountracs has 60) What you may not get is the pleasurable angry distortion tone double 18's make if you're using...

Re: After several gigs with BF system
six omnitops per side groundstacked is an eye opener and more impressive when they start roaring than your old system. The first though is usually "wow that looks like the system we saw the other night at the arena". Despite how it may seem, I'd take a stack of omnitops over ANY double 15 ...

Re: Omnitop12 non-spec combat run
+1 on Jeff Babcock's statement. I actually like the versarray, but they need lots of power. I think the otop12 is a good alternatitive (understatement). I HATED the many Vdosc systems I heard untill I finally heard it done right by Eighth Day Sound, WOW!. It's really all in the engineer and whoever ...

Re: Omnitop12 non-spec combat run
:ugeek: I was happy it was that type of gig as well because it really let me hear these things. It would have been better if I'd had a 500 foot snake to fly over the audience properly so I could have set up foh dead center. I certainly have no intention of going back to my old well known boxes after...

Re: Omnitop12 non-spec combat run
A friend of mine from Kravitz Center was at both shows. I asked him to be brutally honest. We both agreed the system needs some tweaking. Compared to the new Meyer arrays and delays they installed there he said this, "The dispersion is really quite amazing" "I've never heard a small p...

Pics... http://www.screamersusa.com/sitebuilder/images/side2-600x450.jpg more pics here. http://www.screamersusa.com/BFM/OT122.html The Omnitops performed amazingly well. Considering we were so totally undersized for this venue, the sound filled the space remarkably well. Very consistent throughout ...

Re: Vet Fest Success!
Rain protection... home depot, paint isle, 1-2 mil plastic dropcloths that come in a pack of 3 rolls. Enough protection from rain, works fine on wedges in the rain, easy to work with, dispoasble, and best of all easy to carry in your utility kit with your tiedowns and other little neccessities so yo...

Re: Omnitop12 non-spec combat run
Another reason for singles. Overheating amp running 2 ohms, disconnect one cabinet for 2.9 ohms, lower the gain for a few till the amp cools down. Then bring it back up for the rest of the show with 3 cabs only on that amp channel(s). Works better than just letting the amp cool a few and bringing it...

Re: Omnitop12 non-spec combat run
I chose singles for a number of reasons. 1) Lego block mentality. Build whatever configuration you need with whatever amps you have. 2) Cabinet unity. I want large numbers of the fewest types. Never need to question how something will work or where. 3) Single person setup of large arrays. Since ever...

Re: Omnitop12 non-spec combat run
Gee it's amazing how fast you can prep 6 of these with a skilled helper. We just finished pre prepping, cutting, and drilling almost everything but the tee nut holes for all 6 in about 5 hours. Tomorrow a little sanding and port routing and assembly begins. Meanwhile i'm off to the tile saw to cut u...
