Loud tough spaces...exciters!

#1 Post by screamersusa »

Were not talking electronic exciters, aural exciters, or other wacky phase tweakers.

Difficult space tip:
If its a really crappy room, and they want it freaking loud, throw some vocal exciter cabs into the OT array.
If you are running passive boxes, all you need to do is split the system so that one output chain in mono feeds the mains
and the other feeds another amp and 2-4 ot12 next to or on top of the array. Send vocals ONLY to those boxes and bandwidth limit them from 100hz -15khz, tweak the eq to intentionally push vocals, (kill the 6-8k issue). You simply pan the desired vocal or soloist over to the exciters as needed allowing for dynamic mixing in for-hire shows.
BE's will complain at first till they get the hang of it, then they'll respect you. Alot.
If you put the cabs on top of a main stack of 3, you can add some vocal to the lower stacks to fill, if you place them side by side you can't. You do not need or want a stereo mix in a small loud situation anyway as it causes nothing but problems.
At the moment I'm not doing this as I'm trying to work out and find the limits of my Kappa loaded OT's. I will start using it again once I've got my limitations in order.
Use Y chords or the parallel setting of the amps to tie your stereo mains to mono in the amp rack, then you can use 1/2 of the crossover to do all your tweaking for the exciters if you have a digital. If the BE or situation MUST be stereo, all you have to do is pull the Y cords from the amp racks, and recall your stereo setup and forget the exciters or treat them like delay stacks.
