UK suplier for crossover componants

#1 Post by Doug86i »

Hi all,

I need a decent suplier for the 1mH inductor and the 10uF capaciors for the low pass filter in my omnitop 12s.

Does any one know of anywhere decent (*cough* cheep)?

Just as a side note, Im a little confused how adding a low-pass filter to the woofer can improve the high frequency responce??? Can anyone explain this to me?

all the best,

Doug

"The impedance of the woofer naturally increases with frequency. Above 500 Hz it increases enough to reduce current flow, causing loss of response. To counteract this a low pass filter is inserted in the driver circuit. This filter reduces impedance in the midrange to allow higher current flow, and therefore increased sensitivity from 500 to 3.5 kHz. "

Thanks for the prompt reply Bill.

I read that but I dont understand how adding yet more inductance to the circuit will allow higher current flow.

I thought the job of inductors was to reduce current at high frequencies???

sorry If im being thick...

Cheers Dave,

I cant seem to find an apropriate inductor at CPC... here is the search

http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/brows ... tid=419491

the only one that seems correct has a DC resistance of .46 ohms

do you know anywhere else?

It doesn't, the capacitor in the circuit does. Without the capacitor the inductor alone would result in lowered midrange response.
