Favorite round-over for cabinet edges?

#1 Post by billkatz »

I have a T39 about ready to be made smooth - so far I have 5/16" (great for handles) 3/8" and 1/2" radius round-over bits. What works best on the outside of the cabinet?
Built:
1 Omni-15 Tall Boy
2 DR250s
2 Titan 39s

I like 3/8 the most thus far. much more than 1/2 at least.

Just make sure you get corners that fit!

I found, for the T39's, using larger plastic lock tab type corner protectors, you need at least 1/2" there (at the tip of the corner, or the protectors sit proud).
Other than that, the rest of the edges on my cabs are 3/8" as well...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

The standard radius for corner protectors is 3/8".

I've used 1/2" on all my cabs so far with good results. I use the metal corners and some have to be coaxed into place, but they still look good. My poor Harbour Freight bit is getting wore out from hitting brad nails. Oh well.

I have found "small" corner protectors at Blue Aran over here that are for 1/2" roundovers. As Bill says though, usually they are 3/8".

Thanks for all of the advice. I went with the 3/8" bit, and the speakerhardware corners that came with my kit fit perfectly. It also allowed me to round over the sides where there was nothing but the side along the horn mouth. Pictures in my build thread.
