THT Build

#1 Post by Chompy191 »

Starting my Tuba HT Build, I'm building this at school as a project
(access to panel saw etc) :) .
Details...
- Re SRX15D2
- Dayton SA-240B plate amp
- 24.5" wide
- 5 ply plywood (decent grade)
- Selleys Liquid nails Platinum

progress is good so far, up to installing panel 1.
Cut out the driver access using a jigsaw, starting each
cut by drilling a few small holes and making a gap for
the saw to start off with a flat head screwdriver, seemed
to work ok.

Depends on the wood.

Best method is to use the layout lines to mark on the side panel the starting points for the reflectors, but then use a piece of scrap ply to trace the actual outline of the piece.

Measure that outline, and parts cut from those dimensions will be a precise fit. That's what Bill means in the plans by Dead Reckoning.
Good food, good people, good times.

build is coming along nicely :hyper:
That 1/2 inch notch in front of the driver
doesn't look all that much now its installed
but hopefully no worries.

Finally some more progress after waiting a week for more plywood.
I'm thinking a black finish will be the way to go but not really sure
what would look best, roller, spray paint etc. Any ideas?

Great to see another (younger) Aussie doing a build!

Looking great so far!

All the best for your project :)

ps, you'll get a bit excited about your end result. Of the cab that is...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Cool build!

The next 48 hours will be the worst wait of your life. After putting on the final side, you must fight the temptation to fire it up for an entire day until the PL cures. Be strong.

Got the side panel installed today, only just had enough liquid nails left to cover all the edges. Lined up reasonably well, all my pre drilled holes were in the correct locations. Some of the outer panels were warped but got them flush using a bar clamp then screws.

Looking great there.

I'll use this picture as leverage for permission to put the titans in the living room. Theyre hardly bigger than the "average" HT sub.

Chompy,

Liquid nails is great stuff. I'm not sure the platinum version is expanding polyurethane.

It's absolutely vital for these cabs they are leak free. Absolutely positively in the driver chamber.
If your selleys hasn't oozed out and left an nice squeeze out, it will be very difficult to address now that final side is on!

:fingers: for you...

If you decide to do another project, PL is available in Australia.

yeah I'm pretty confident there are no leaks.
I used a generous amount on all joints and I didn't get any leaks
when I built my TTLS. From what I can tell it seems to expand a fair
bit when it dries.
