Carver Amp Capacitor Bolt Missing

#1 Post by doncolga »

Hey,

I've got a Carver PM 950 Power Amp and a bolt on one of the capacitors (I think) has come loose. I've gotten the bolt out and the unit powers up fine. Does this need immediate attention or can I still play with this? I've included a picture. Clearly, it's in a very tricky spot to screw back in. I was going to try running my old EV boxes for tops so I can go ahead and sell my SRM 450's to fund my Otop 12's. I'm so tired of running damn power and audio cables to those things...very cluttery! :wall:

Thanks!

Donny

Oh yes, put it back in before you use the amp again...just be careful in doing so...the caps may still have a charge on them

 DOH!
...well next time discharge those caps into a resistor or by shorting the + to - , or the + to the chassis.. use a value of somewhere between 10K and 100K. The larger the value of the resistor, the longer it will take to discharge the caps, and the less of a spark youll see. As the handy chart below shows you the relationship between rc value, charge and discharge time.
