Great job chenry.

They look fantastic. Now, I guess you're ready to start the soldering. Again, tedious but in the 'home stretch'. Soon, you'll be firing them up. That's the big payoff.

I got the painting done and the woofers mounted. Now I'm mounting the tweets. So I'm a couple of days behind you.

Yeah, Im gonna mount the drivers on the other baffle today, hopefully get some sodering done, if not I hope to do it this wknd, kinda hard for me to get stuff done on the wknd though, I work 12hr shifts fri-sun! :? Cant cant wait to fire them up though, I tested the 8's before mounting them. IMHO, they sound great..five bucks or not!! I cant wait to hear them

Hey chenry,

Do you think you're going to get the sound on this weekend? I'm pushing really hard to get power on tomorrow (Saturday).

Getting close.....

Wiring progress. Let me know if I did it wrong! It seems like 1.9 ohms is awfully low, of course its not in series with the piezos/crossover yet either.

It is too low. And the piezos are not in series with the midbasses.

I'm not sure why they are reading so low..yeah I didn't wanna hook the piezos up until I figured out the deal with my midbass. Ill have to look at stuff tonigh, was gettin a little pressed for time last night.

Chenry,

You're 8 drivers each 12 ohms. With a series / parallel hookup, you should be around 6 ohms.

To hook series parallel, wire the negative terminals of the first 4 drivers together, from the - input of the crossover/filter. Then, hook the positive terminals together and run that to the negative terminals of the other 4 drivers. Then, you hook the positive terminals from the remaining 4 drivers together and run that to your + input of the crossover/filter. That's two series banks of 4 parallel drivers.

Your piezos will be run separate from the mid bass drivers out of the crossover/filter circuit.

Does this make sense?

Chris

On my hookup, I don't have any low pass filter on the mid bass driver circuit I wire the cabinet input (+/-) to the filter circuit (I have a terminal strip on the filter board, see my fotos). The mid bass (+/-) are wired directly to that connection. But the piezo filter circuit is also wired directly to those connections. The output of the filter is also routed to the terminal strip, to which the piezo wiring is connected.

Hope I'm making sense here.

Thinking about your hookup again and what your photos look like, I suspect that all your drivers are hooked up in parallel

That is: 1/(8/12) = 1.5 ohms. That's pretty close to what you measured.

Think that might be the case?

Thanks for your input Chris, and your right they were all in parallel! Im an idiot! :wall:

Like you im running the mids without a filter and thus should wire directly into the speaker terminal, parallel with the crossover/filter for the piezos.

See the pic for what I think is correct.

ok here is my crossover/filter for the piezo's per the plans. It should be correct, lets hope anyway!

also, if you guys have any recommendations regarding a crossover/filter for the midbass speakers, let me know. This is my first time with homemade crossovers and series/parallel wiring. Again, thanks for all your help Chris and everyone else. This might be the first set of speakers I have built correctly!!
