One thing I noticed right away with the sound, they're holographic. Anyone else experience this? I mean, I'm hearing discernible layers of depth in the mixes...the kinda of Z-axis behavior I've experienced on Danley and Vandersteen stuff.. maybe not so "in-your face" obvious like them, but subtle and present no less... and that's simply using my Walkman or an iPad so far.

I haven't even broken out the good gear yet.

The most noticeable part for me with the 2x6 SLA Pro's I built was way more detail in the highs than any other speaker we've used. Good because I'm hearing things I didn't before. And BAD because... I'm hearing things I didn't hear before. LOL Overall a good experience. I'd rather have the capability to hear everything I want. I can always filter out the undesirable elements. Which, in my case is increased sylibence... the "S's" (esses) really jump out.

I totally agree on the option to filter out. That's always a plus.

Although these certainly still require EQ to sound their best, it wouldn't take much at all to adjust. Here I have them playing straight off the iPad, no EQ applied... high-sensitivity FTW.

Careful with the volume near the end when the Metal track starts. It's more quiet at first which might tempt someone to turn it up, but I eventually stick the mic's right between the cabs which really spikes the level.

Just waiting for new grills to close this out, then it's on to T48's

Had a chance to fire up them up outside, paired with the Auto Tubas. iPhone audio is what it is..Would've loved to have shot with the better camera/mic, but it was too windy. It also didn't help that I am way off-axis as well. Biggest problem I had this time around was when I tried to normalize the audio the bass got waaayy too distorted...so it's a little more quiet than I had intended in order to preserve the response. In the shot where I'm across the street, the subs were only seeing 1.4V and the tops ~300 mV.

Grills came in yesterday from a 3rd party fabricator, but am once again sorting out another fitment issue.

Other than finishing out the T48's, I'm realizing that I'm gonna need a better method to organize cable storage, the rig needs a digital mixer (master volume), and that the K&M Tilt locks are a great idea on paper, but I think Nimrod's BT-12 might be in order.

Revisiting the custom replacement grills I received from Reliable Hardware.

I was worried at first because these grills fit significantly tighter than the ones I had formed at work, which dropped right in. However, once I figured out that they fit so tightly in the baffle that they required no further fastening than somewhat brutishly press-fitting them into place, I was relieved.

I finally got around to ordering another batch of grill foam too, and read up on how Mr. Weber tackled getting the material to stick well enough to the grills. Hopefully the undercoating method works better than the contact adhesive I had tried previously. We'll see. If no luck this time around, I'll use them sans foam. Fingers crossed, but even without the foam, the new grills look great!

I'll be posting the ones I made in the For Sale section once the foam is re-installed.

Grills turned out better than I was expecting. Was biting my fingernails there during the cure.
These SLA Pro are done now. Complimentary subs are currently in the works.

Thanks all. Standing on the shoulders of giants here. Couldn't have done it without spending a ton of time in the Tips, Techniques, Suppliers section and checking out previous builds.

They are press-fit into place. The interference between the Line-X textured finish along the baffle and the vinyl coating of the grills is what's holding them. Rather tightly, I might add.
