OT12's... Ten months later
OT12's... Ten months later
I finish my OT12's back in August 2008. Wanted to drop a line and pics after I done quite a few shows. I'm still amazed with their performance and clarity, as are so many others that hear them. After seeing them, our bass player said, "We need more speakers!" After hearing them at the first show we did, he said, "Wow, we don't need S&%T!" I spent about two weeks building, one week each. Just a couple hours a night. The plans were easy to follow. The pics really helped. I pole mount them on top of Tapco 18" subs. I plan to replace the subs with T48's.... when the economy and my wallet gets a boost. The Tapco's do great but I'm sure I'll quickly sell them after I build/hear some Titans. Thanks Bill, for making your great speaker designs available. So much better than the flat, boxy sound of the big brand names, at a way better price!

Nice man! Really nice! Your description of the sound and pictures are just perfect!
Looking at your grill and recess for the grill, I finally got the mental picture I needed to do a grill for my Wedgehorns.
Did you use velcro on the grills?

Be warned, they are _big_ boxes to haul around. But if you have the pack space, go for it! I just completed my first T48. Haven't had a chance try it out properly yet, but testing in my ~500 sq ft apartment it is literally vision blurring. Just trying to find time to build the second oneSpoon wrote:I plan to replace the subs with T48's.... when the economy and my wallet gets a boost.

Thank you. I use two screws on the top and bottom. Pulls the grill nice and tight. You can see the bottom screw holes in the second pic down.Rickisan wrote:Nice man! Really nice! Your description of the sound and pictures are just perfect!

Ok yes, I see them now. I think I may try Velcro by stapling the velcro to the grill frame and speaker recess. We'll see what happens. Thanks again for the great review!

Hey Rickisan, Take a look at the top pic. You can see I stapled a small tab of screen cloth to the grill frame. Makes removing the grill a breeze. Might wanna add that if you haven't already.

Re: OT12's... Ten months later
Ok now I'm confused. Do the screws provide an interference friction type fit to the grill frame? It appears they are located in a position impossible to put a screwdriver on with the frame in place? Nice lookin' cabs by the way

The screws are put in from the outside of the cabinet. They thread into the grill frame. Here's a pic. The other two pics are one's I've been meaning to take but never got around to until now.

Had to reduce the size of the pics. Here's the second try.

Is that a metal grill or is it pet screen pulled tight over a wooden frame?

Wow. Looks very nice. Maybe I'll try that on my upcoming DR200's.Spoon wrote:Just pet screen, from Lowes.David Carter wrote:Is that a metal grill or is it pet screen pulled tight over a wooden frame?

Re: OT12's... Ten months later
Thanks David. It's a wooden frame, to completely answer your question : ). I put the screen on pretty snug. Then when the screws are put in it pulls pretty tight. Tough stuff. Looks like it's made from fiberglass strands with plastic over it.David Carter wrote:Wow. Looks very nice. DOH! Makes sense now. I'm planning on the same method for my Wedgehorns. Thanks for the pics explaining. The screws are put in from the outside of the cabinet. They thread into the grill frame.
