omni 15 build in nor cal

#1 Post by boammusic »

hey fellow builders, hows it goin? well my name is Jeremy and i want an omni 15. So i have no prior woodworking skills and i am bulding one of these cabs. It is coming along pretty well. I had a shakey begining with it though, as the pictures in the plans dont exactly match what is supposed to happen. but it will work. Unfortuantely i had many things working against me, most i did not no of, that were mostly because of my lack of wood working knowledge. But the good thing is, this has taught me much about wood working and i wont make the same mistakes on the second one. Progress so far:

Hello Jeremy, and welcome to the world of BFM design cabs! :hyper:

i have to ask, as I see voids in your plywood.... are you using Home Depot 1/2" plywood? If you are, you may not like the finished cab, as the cheap H D crap plywood is quite weak and flimsy, with a lot of voids.

Anyway, just keep working at your project, work slow, take your time, and measure! measure! measure! before you cut.

Nice to have you aboard!

That bottom pannel on the cab looks like it is a bit out of wack  But probably holding something else in line.

It looks like it could be an easy fix though. When you put the other side pannel and back on.

You going to carpet or paint it?

I think that's the camera lens doing that.

yea thats the lens doin that, the bottom is fine, i stood it up on its bootom for the first time today. Im having a little trouble with the mid horn, this being my first atempt at wood working, but im going to have my uncle help me out with it. he is a wood worker for a profession, so he can make it fit in the hole i cut in the front no problem. but he also has what i need to cut the two speaker spacers. then i just have to brace it up and cover it in tolex and load it.

Were here to help you so ask qestions and reread the plans over and over again.
The mid horn is a bit of a trick...take your time. have you made the angle cuts on each of the horn peices?

Before you think about coverings don't forget the crossovers.

It's easier and better to cut the hole after the horn is made ... a little late now, I know. :D

heres some more pics. my tolex comes tomorow so its 99% complete. Unfortunatley i could not afford the kappalite(yet) and i put my trace elliot 15" in there. it sounds good, but i can only imagine what it would sound like with the nice 15 in there... This is also my first expirience working with wood in any way, so it didnt turn out perfect. but im buying more and nicer wood to use for my second cab that starts tomorow....enjoy

If you are building a second cab to match, be sure to pay attention to mirror-imaging the baffle.
When you stack the second cab, you want the mid-horns close to each other.
