I did read it. Congrats on your decision to come over from the dark side, however, please note I said "Those who can play". Since the jury is still decidedly out on that....

After reading all of the replies I am worried about the type of people who are in love with these speakers. I am a guitar and bass player for over 40 years. I play guitar for the girls ( I've been married for over 30 years) and the bass to play with my self, maybe that didn't come out just right but you know bass players.
I have also been a wood worker for several years and have a few toys and a few tricks to make saw dust. My drivers are on the way so I should be finishing up in the next few weeks. They would be a real challenge without a shop. What is every opinion on a covering I am leaning toward Durateck. (sp) Phil

Duratex.

And yes, by all means use it. I used to carpet everything, then I'd spend a day every 2 months trying to get dog hair off of them.

Read this thread, specifically the opening post where it says 'And Now a Word from Our Sponsor', then scroll down a few posts to look at my subs before and after. It's eye opening!

I have carpeted my Omni10 and rack cases. I have used Duratex on my DR250's and Titan39's. I like both. Some folks find carpet to be too difficult. I didn't think it was that big a deal. But I think for DR250's Duratex is probably easier. You just have to make sure that you do a good job of filling all holes, dents, etc. and sanding the whole thing down well so they don't show through. Also, follow the application instructions carefully (e.g. do not apply in sub-50-degree temps, wait for each coat to dry completely before applying the next, don't lay it on too thick, etc.) or you will not be a happy camper. Been there, done that. :wall: However, after learning from my mistakes, I was a very happy camper the second time around. :)

+1

I pulled all 20 of my cabinets out in January after a lot of building activity over the holidays. They were covered with a tick layer of dust from sanding bondo, etc. Based on Tim's post - I lined them up on the driveway (horn mouth down) and pulled out the hose. I sprayed them down, and then hit them with the car washing brush. I even used the hose to clean the horn mouths on the Titans - but I went after the insides of the DR's with a wet sponge. A little toweling off and they were all fine.

Duratex is awesome stuff.

Hi guys I was home this weekend playing with my tweeters, (that sounds just wrong) but what do you use as a seal when attaching them to the frame? I'll put up some pictures of my progress when I get back home from a trip. I am getting ready to apply the curved sides next. I have had the 1/4 plywood in a press to try and match the curves of the side. Phil

Because I carpet my cabs, I make a carpet gasket by cutting an oblong larger than the inside perimeter of the melded array, make a slit down the middle just as long is the INSIDE of the extremities of the back, cut about 1" each side at right angles each end of this slit then slide it over the back.

Screw on and trim with a sharp box-cutter knife

Works a treat...every time :loler:

Hi guys, I just got back from an FAA medical conference and started building again.http://s635.photobucket.com/albums/uu76 ... G_0566.jpg
As you can see I am making some progress. I am hoping to finish them up this weekend and start the outside finish work, Sanding and routing. and waiting for the Duretex. I am getting ready to start testing the speaker and tweeter and break-in the driver. Following the directions for the PVC cuts was very helpful. The plans continue to be very good and I have found these last sections easier to build than the horn construction section. I found some very long hot glue tubes and these worked better than the short ones.
I bought a $5:00 plastic saw blade and this made all of the cuts easy without melting the plastic parts. Phil

I don't know if you know this but....do the driver break-in outside the cab. 31.5 Hz at about 10.5 volts for around 120 to 12 hours. It's a lot quieter that way.
