Sidney,

I have read just about every post in the Educational Links forum and to be quite honest, most of it is WAY over my head at this point in my sound reinforcement/speaker design/acoustical theory education (and that is after two college degrees). :conf: That being said, PLEASE keep posting items there. Even if I only absorb 5%, that's more than when I started. BTW, what happend to davygrvy?

It's good to have them there for those who are interested.

It is good to know that it does help even if only 5%...
On the other hand that could indicate a problem.
It shouldn't be a repository of mind numbing facts but perhaps offer some guided learning or organization tailored to needs; more like a learning center and less like a box of textbooks...
I have been an instructor and had to select and develop course material and provide instruction. To make it effective you have to understand the frames of reference of individuals and present material in useful context to them.
I thought perhaps that the items that have proved to be significant or helped an individuals in particular could be condensed into a sort of Handy Guide.
Some need and understandably want ONLY practical useful knowledge not theory or engineering.
Individual needs should be addressed
What would help improve it's usefulness?

RE: David; I have not seen a post from him ( on other forums ) for a couple of weeks - I suspect he's just busy in CA.
BTW: He responses well to PM & e-mail

Though some links have expired,

I know of one that went dead,
"Quadratic Residue Diffusors"

Which other ones?
Perhaps other equivalents/replacements are out there.

Alright,

I had a chance to use this live, I brought it out to my weekly gig, its a small night club 3-4k sq.ft? with a stage thats about 2.5-3 ft tall.

I powered the T48 off 1 side of my PLX1802, It only saw about 350watts at full output before clip.

First we tried putting the cab on its side on the dance floor in the corner of the stage/half wall, it was loud on stage, dance floor was empty, no bass.

I stood it up, no difference. I flipped the cab and fired it into the corner, and it opened the whole room up, bass was thumpin' on the dance floor, could feel it in your chest. It could be heard and felt 300ft away in pool room next door. It was incredible.

The 2x 18" ported boxes under the stage that they're dumping 800W into (each!) have NOTHING on this cab. 1 15" impressed me, as well as my friend who's big into sound.

I'm very happy, this single 15" filled the entire club with bass. I may build and carpet one just to leave in the club for my personal use for this gig. Depends on how popular the place gets over the next couple months.

Told you... :hyper:

Half the battle is having the right tool for the job. The other half is knowing how to use it. As you found out even the best sub won't work if it's not placed where it needs to be to work right.

I recently started a local pub every fri and sat. night. The guy that was there before me played a lot of techno. I'm not sure what he was using, but the manager said that I would need a good bit of equipment because he would make the roof rattle. I brought the usual 4-250's and two T-48's. I placed the T-48's with their backs against the wall, because they have me centered, no corners. Mid to 3/4 volume he asks me to turn down the bass, because the windows are rattling so badly. I ask him if they had this problem before, he says, never. I unplug one sub and all is good. I know that they should be used in pairs and I prefer to do so, but I dont use it if I dont need it. I'm going to try and find out what the other equipment was, but I think it was Yorkie. I'll let you know.

Better to turn them down and reduce stress using two instead of one so long as you have them there. But next time you know you can leave one at home. :D

Thats my intention, I wanted to run the night with one before I made that decision. They will let me leave one in the pub, so I only need to unload rack and tops now. :hyper:

I think i'll be screwing a single T48 to the dance floor at the club with a proprietary connector/key lock on the input panel and leaving it there.

the ceiling in the club is 13', i think. Which according to Bill is one of the reasons I didn't have much success in my basement with the T48.

How do these do outside in doubles? The weather is still crappy here, I haven't been able to bring the T48 out to a field.

I forgot to mention, thats standing up side by side. V-couple if you can., it'll be that much better. Like a dumbass, I put rat fur on my subs, so if I lay them down, I have to clean them with a fro pick and a leaf blower.
