fiberglass horn sheaths?

#1 Post by djengineer »

I opted to not put buttcheeks as the subject...Has anyone tried to make their own out of fiberglass? I am a composite hobbyist and could easily make some. I have had no luck finding 1/4" or 1/8" (locally) here in MI.

One UK speakerbuilder I saw made whole horns out of fibreglass

He used double layer thick ladies tights stretched around a frame, which he then fibreglassed onto and then added layers at will. It worked very well apparently. I am sure it could be reproduced quite easily.

another option I've seen posted is aluminum.

Can't help but wonder if 6" hvac duct that you can easily find at home depot/lowes would work. (galvanized steel) It's already precurved.

I used it to make a cyclonic dust seperator for my shop.

just a thought.

It would work fine but it is very heavy compared to aluminum.

I'm very curious...
Worked for a short while in a composite fabrication plant - looong time ago.
Since then dabbled/experimented with different things.
Got links?
