Hey all, I just moved into a new spot and i'm debating what do with building a sound system. The living room is pretty dang large with a huge L shaped couch and this useless entryway cabinet that's right behind it. It looks nice, but serves no real purpose.
What i'm wondering is if it would be smart to just replace it with a low profile THT. It would be roughly the same size and being so close to the couch, i'm assuming it would provide quite the kick during movies.
The other option is going with a more traditional sub that would be corner loaded up next to the TV (you can barely see this in the top left of the pic). I'm sure this would sound good too, but i'm just debating which path to start down...and hopefully you all have some stellar sage advice. Could I just run both with some delays factored in?
Thanks!
Possible LPTHT use case...need input though

It really depends on the room itself whether sub placement at that specific location will sound good at the couch seating positions or not, whether or not it's a noticeable null zone at certain frequencies. If you currently have a subwoofer, you can test different sub placement locations throughout the room prior to committing to a solution. Or the reverse process... the sub crawl. Place the sub in your preferred listening position, get on your hands and knees, and crawl around the room listening and/or measuring bass response around the perimeter and desired placement locations, choosing the location that has the best and most even response throughout the desired frequency range.
Build in process - 2 WH6, one Alpha 6a loaded, one PRV Audio 6MB250-NDY loaded
Two 2x6 shorty SLA Pro's
One T39, 16", 3012LF loaded
Tall AutoTuba, 20" wide, 2x 8" MCM 55-2421
TruckTuba, 8½" wide, 2x 8" MCM 55-2421

It should work, my TT 2x4 is right next to my recliner/listening position/home theater/home office.

Yea, I hear that. I do have a sub I could test various positions with...that's a good idea actually. Thank you internet friend!Seth wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:51 pm It really depends on the room itself whether sub placement at that specific location will sound good at the couch seating positions or not, whether or not it's a noticeable null zone at certain frequencies. Bill, ok good to know. Thank you again for making all these amazing monstersBill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 3:16 pm It should work, my TT 2x4 is right next to my recliner/listening position/home theater/home office.
Hey side question, if I don't go the THT route, would you recommend that new bass reflex design you created for the Celestion TSQ2145 21"? Doesn't look like it gets very low is the only thing...but i'm sure the output would be insane. If I corner loaded it, maybe that would make for a bit on the low end?

That's a pro-sound sub, not HT. If you're looking for a direct radiator there's the Simplexx 15 Sub and Simplexx 18.

Ahh, of course, how did I not see that before...Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 5:15 pm That's a pro-sound sub, not HT. If you're looking for a direct radiator there's the Simplexx 15 Sub and Simplexx 18.
Looks like a ported 15" version with a RSS390HO-4-15-Reference-Series-HO-Subwoofer would do everything i'd like and more.
And it also looks like parts express sells the flat pack...that might be the way to go for me at the moment.
Thanks again!
