Truck tuba inside...?

#1 Post by himhimself »

Just pondering sub placement in my great room and wondering how truck tubas would do inside the house. At about 6 inches, I realized I could build a pair and slide one under each sofa for a true invisible set up. Maybe it needs the cabin gain of a vehicle to sound good. I loaned mine out TT some time ago. I'll get it back and try it but thought I'd ask if anyone had experience or opinion.
2xT30 (20", 3012LF)
2xT30 (21", 3012LF)
4xOtop J-array (Beta12, melded/straight)
Truck Tuba (MCM)
Next up: 2xJack12L or family of table tubas

It does need cabin gain. Small TTLS is as small as I'd go.

Okay to try what you already have. But, I wouldn't recommend it if you were looking to build something for that purpose.

I've used my 2x8 8½" TrT in my 12x30 storage unit and it sounded really good. It's not super loud and I had to add a ton of bottom end EQ. But, I did have a neighbor about 5 doors down and on the back side of the building from where my unit is, come over and and in a really annoyed winey bitch voice asked if I would turn it down. If you have sufficient DSP, give it a go and see if it meets your expectations. Won't hurt anything to try it. I was powering it with an old Behringer iNuke 1000DSP I had laying around, which seems to put out about 35V per channel, IIRC.

I like the idea, but we all know it's not the right tool for the job. I'm using my AT as my ht sub currently and couldn't be happier. Can't hurt anything by trying it out. I think you're just trying to convince yourself to build more TT's. You should totally do that.
BFM builds:
