That would probably be the best solution - but the wife has only accepted subwoofers behind the couch. And I think the THT lower cut-off is my next step up I'm missing it in the TT. The PC12 + TT actually works ok, as the distortion is not audible in movies. Guess I'm just curious about what the THT will do

It probably won't do what you want it to if you go minimum width again. That may be what's limiting the TT.

Hmm - i thought the lower tune would make the difference.
I thought width was a sensitivity "issue" - i definitly don't need sensitivity with my TT. At 30 Hz it's a beast - so clean.
I dont have the space for the wider versions unfortunately.
I think I would be satisfied, if the THTLP acted the same at 22 hz, and it dropped below that.

Just to open up some other creative options; if your home has a basement or crawl space, you can have the sub mounted below and have a grated vent in the corner of the room. If you have an attic/crawl space above the room, same thing. What's on the other side of the walls? Perhaps a closet that you could put the bulk of the cabinet in and just open the dimensions of the mouth into the main listening space.

Thanks, Seth. Unfortunately I don't have such options. House is for rent, and is too "modern" for these awesome possibilities. I can't imagine how big my subwoofers would be, if I could fill an attic.

Just for reference. Min width 12" THT, Max width 12" THT, and a mid sized TT (not minimum like you've built)

I see what you mean. That it might not do what I want.
But on the other hand, a 12 inch can take more abuse than the 8 inch - right? I know the drivers act differently in a horn - and I haven't yet understood how.
My TT is pretty capable at 25 Hz - but I can* hear the ticking distortion, i linked to in a video in another post.
At 25 Hz the THT will be right at home - and then 20 Hz will maybe act as the TT does at 25 Hz, and being a 12 inch it can take more power at 20 hz, so chances of audible driver distortion is less.
Am I wrong in these assumptions?
I don't know if I'm making any sense.

I've decided to put the project to rest for a bit, and use the TT on it's own. The THTLP will be an upgrade from the TT, and i have no idea by how much before I've build it.
My assumption is, that it will have a quite serious headroom, compared to my listening levels - so I think I can EQ it flat to 20 Hz.

The GRS driver is back in stock in March - so that's probably when I'll build it

I wasn't really making a point other than illustrating the difference. To me, it looks as though the THT should do what you want.

Also keep in mind, the TT has a 4Ω driver, the two TT traces have a 6Ω driver, and the driver you're considering using is an 8Ω driver. Given 2.83 volt signal results in 2watts, 1.34watts, and 1watt.


So, only behind the couch... If you build a full width THTLP (30"), it should come up to just below the back of the couch. Finished well, it would make a fantastic place to put decorations, reading lamps, family photos, etc. as if it were a console table behind the couch. (I'm trying to help sell it for you ) Full width cabs are nearly free output.
