6 Tuba 45s
Re: 6 Tuba 45s
I know... Follow the plans, but im used to a driver hatch with a lip for the flange to glue onto. The T45 doesn't have this, like the T24.
Anyone else come up with something here?.
I thought about cutting the door 1/2 inch bigger all the way around and allowing the door to mount to the internal panels. Then during construction glueing in a 1/2 x 1/2 doubler on those panels, around the door, but in the horn path side to support the side of the cabinet there, and to help create a seal.
Thoughts?

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
This link is to my T24 build - I did a one piece flange. Not sure if that would work on the T45, but you can scroll down for some details on it.J_Dunavin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 6:23 pm I know... Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Looks good, I like it.
The T24 though has a lip for the flange to sit up against, there is no lip on the T45. The flange just gets glued to the edge.
I've gone with the Lab12 as well which doesn't help due to the height.
I have also thought about making the door 1.5 inches Bigger than the opening, then routing out the door and side of the box to make a lap joint, with tee nuts.

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Oh man, I like the one piece flange idea. Wish I would have seen that before I built my first two T30s. Gonna do that on the next ones. Thanks Bruce!

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Two of my 45s will be slimmer.
How much output am I loosing going from 20 down to 18 or 16 inches?
I was planning on 2 x 20 inches but I think I need to go a little more narrow.
The other 4 will be the full 24 inches.
Edit, sorry, all lab 12 loaded

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
right...
i guess what i'm asking is i was already planning on two 20 inchers, How much difference will it make going down to 18 and then down to 16 inches wide?
is there a sweet spot or a width where it really starts to drop off?

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
It really drops off narrower than the minimum width listed in the plans. The point of diminished returns is larger than the maximum width listed in the plans.
Re: 6 Tuba 45s
LOL. Sorry about that JD. I just figured something between those two lines. I get it though. It would be nice if there were graphs available to reference for every width and common driver combination. Even if it was only available in the plans (purchase incentive)

Re: 6 Tuba 45s

I'll have to sacrifice a few inches, but i don't think it will affect things too bad.... Besides if i come in at a 17inch internal width it looks like i can get away with just one brace down the middle, according to the plans.

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Progress...
I decided to go ahead and cut the pieces for the door flang and install them as I put pieces 1-5 on.
I hope it will save a little time as I won't have to worry about scraping glue away to make em fit.
It also helped to have something for pieces 1-3 to sit up against, besides the square.

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Man these are big, well bigger than all those T24s I made. How do you T60 guys build?? Must take two people.
Not shown, but I got all 6 up to panel 5 last night.
Don't mind the knots
everything is straight at least.

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Nice progress;

Of course they are the size of refrigerators, that was a 1 man build. The most difficulty was flipping them over to access another side. Had to grab the far side and lean wayyy back like they do on sailboat racing before you could get the center of gravity to finally come your way and flip the cab over.
I'm watching this thread with interest, 6 T45's are my next build. Those T60's are in a permanent install so no moving after they were built (aside from waxing the dance floor), I'm going mobile now so T45's make more sense to me to lug about.
We build dual cabs !!

Re: 6 Tuba 45s
Woah! Those are awesome!
The 24s I had were so nice to move, but I have a dolly, so the 45s should be fine, though I am not going to store them in my basement. No way am I hauling them in and out every gig. I hope the cold wi winter's will be ok on the 3012s out in the garage.
