Speaker recone glue

#1 Post by cbarth »

Hi,

I just got a Lab 12 recone kit from Reconekits.com :hyper: Man, that was fast shipping!

And now for my question, what kind of glue would you guys recomend?

Regards

I found this document from Loctite:

Seems like the 410 glue would do for most of the work...

Gel superglue pretty much across the board, with a cure accelerator.

Here is a good selection of glues. You won't need all of them as it looks like most recone kits nowadays come mostly assembled.

I spent about 10 years reconing blown drivers for the music store I worked at but kits back then came in separate pieces if at all. They mostly didn't so I had to assemble every piece after picking them from an inventory of thousands of parts.

Make sure to clean the VC gap well using a shim with double sided tape before you glue anything in.

reconekits.com usually sends a bottle of adhesive in the kit. It's good stuff.

Thanks for reply's guys!

Yes, I found the glue inside the center ring of the packaging. Looks good.

But I have a couple of other questions :)

The original Lab 12 has double dust caps, the outer one is almost as big as the cone itself.
The recone kit has only one, and it looks like the inner one on the original. Is this correct with only this small one?

The cone, spider and voicecoil came all prefitted (very nice), but to me it looks like the wires are really close to the spider.
What do you guys think?

Since the dust caps are so heavy, I'd be worried that deleting such a large portion of the weight would drastically change something. Call them and tell them to ship it pronto.

Unless you've already destroyed it, you could probably salvage the old one.
