Re: 15x15x60 TTLS no square cuts no clamps newb-build
I just flick the lever on the caulking gun just before I get to the end of a glue line, it stops the overflow of PL and with a bit of practise you can get just enough flow to finish the run. Then, I usually remember to put the cap on, but on the few times I didn't you can usually unscrew the nozzle and just poke the hardened slug of glue out of the nozzle taper with a nail or something. If it's only a day or so since you last used it, there should only be a half inch or so of hardened glue in there.MTB goat wrote: Crap, I just realized I didn't cap it. I hope I didn't waste a whole tube drying out at home right now.what does everyone use to keep the rest of the tube from drying out?
Longer term, PL cures with humidity and I'm pretty sure it's hygroscopic because I 've had whole tubes go hard even though they've been capped. The answer is to put the capped tube in a freezer bag and stick it in the freezer. I had a part used tube in there for months and it was perfect after half an hour's thaw out.

Way to go!MTB goat wrote:Super proud of myself tonight! So, I have this router I used once over 10 years ago, but I thought I gave it away to someone. After digging around in storage, I found that I still have it. After reading various build threads and doing some online research, I made my own circle jig out of some plexiglass scrap that was laying around. worked like a charm!
Oh . . and I think I found the cause of your straight cut issue. OTOH . . maybe your cuts would be even worse without it!

that's for sure!OTOH . . maybe your cuts would be even worse without it!

So far, my biggest challenge was making the 45* angle cuts on panel 4. My first attempt left the panel about 1/4" too short. Using the skill saw, I didn't realize the cut was actually not on the line I was following. DOH!

Just got done with the screw retention blocks, and that sure took longer than I thought it would! very tedious... PL all over the place!
Question: After I cut the driver hole, the only way I could figure to line up the driver to mark the holes was by eyeing it. Looking down with the panel on top the driver, I tried to center as best as possible so the surround was even around with the circle. then made a mark around it, flipped it all over and lined it up with my mark and then punched the holes. Don't know if there is a better way?

When you found the centre to draw your circle to cut, you could have drawn pencil lines on the panel, like a cross.Question: After I cut the driver hole, the only way I could figure to line up the driver to mark the holes was by eyeing it. Since your driver has 8 mount holes, if you then have the line in the middle of the "top" and "bottom" holes on one axis, the either edge hole in the middle of the other axis, and the driver would be perfectly centred.
Hope that makes sense...

Yep, I see. Thanks. I got all excited about my router jig and didn't plan ahead. I'll do that next time.

Newbie question about mounting the driver: do I leave the thick foam on the frame or take it off?
I started mounting it with the foam on it and I'm afraid to tighten the screws down for fear it will bend the frame.
I'm guessing just leave it on? doesn't seem right. lots of clearance that way though, but I'm afraid to tighten the screws all the way down.

Leave it on. Tighten each screw 1/4 turn or so once it make contact, going in a star-shaped (criss-cross) pattern. Keep going from one screw to the next until the screws are snug/tight (dont be ham-fisted).

Goat that exactly how I pictured building mine. Did you leave the back open?

Unable to do anything for a few days, but then today work was dead so I cam home early and glued in a bunch of panels:

well the bottom is open, at least I think it will be the bottom. it's really not finished yet, just a "holder" of sorts for now. just 4 pieces of MDF I had laying around I cut and screwed together. I will post up another pic when it is more finished.Rowan611 wrote:Goat that exactly how I pictured building mine. Did you leave the back open?
Re: 15x15x60 TTLS no square cuts no clamps newb-build
only took about 15 minutes to make the amp a little more handsome today. Tried some cheap carbon fiber look vinyl wrap. If I were to do it again, I would spay paint the MDF black first and let it dry. I went around a touched up spots where you could see raw MDF with a sharpie. I would also try to wrap the corners rather than cut them flush. I'm afraid the edges will eventually peal at the corners. this stuff is really easy to work with, but would probably stick better to painted surface. but anyhow, good enough for now.
