Just an update, I puchased 4 tubes of the PL at a cost of roughly 8 dollars a tube after tax. Tonight Dad and I are planning on getting started cutting wood and seeing chips fly.

Holy crap, full retail on Pl premium is 6.49. My local guys get 5.99.

Bill, my plans say on Page one paragraph two that the least expensive recommended driver is the Kappa 15LF. Do I have old plans? Later in that same paragraph it says the upgrade eminence drivers include the Kappa Pro15LF. Which are the ones I am planning on building. Right now I cannot afford going with the KappaLite 3015's. Eventually I would like to switch to those.

As for the PL cost, That is from a local vender and I prefer to spend as much of my money in my hometown if I can. So the extra 2 bucks doesn't bother me. Hopefully I just won't have to buy too many of those if so than I will never be able to afford those 3015's.

Maximum output isn’t about watts, it’s about driver displacement (T/S spec Vd). The Kappa 15LF has 471cc Vd, the Kappa Pro 15LF 507cc, so the Pro is only slightly louder. The Lab 15 Vd is 968cc, so it’s equivalent to two Kappa 15LF, justifying its weight and price if you’ve got more money than pack space. When comparing various drivers don’t look at the watts, look at the displacement.
You said you're building four K15LF loaded cabs. Two loaded with 3015LF or Lab 15 would be almost as loud. Four loaded with the 3015LF or Lab 15 would be almost as loud as eight with the K15LF. If you've got the means and the muscle to haul around twice as many cabs then by all means go with the less expensive driver, just be sure of what and why you're doing what you're doing before you do it.

If your plans don't have a front loaded driver, then they are out of date.

I understand what your saying now, Bill. I just can't afford 500 dollars for two 3015's right now. I have a gig that I am hoping to have these ready for in 3 weeks. Eventually I will switch to 3015's when I am more financially able to. If I get a nice tax return I'll make sure to put that toward the 3015's and the rest toward building two more 48's. I am really looking forward to hearing these in person.

My plans are the front loaded version. So I believe they are up to date.

Some of the best advice I got here was to bite the bullet and get the premium driver. I have a sub worth two subs with lesser drivers. Reworking the cabinet to make it fit costs you time and the money spent on the first drivers. If you don't have the money now, you won't have it later either. Save yourself the pain in hauling, rebuilding and rebuying. If it means you build one, then start with one.

Just FYI/throwing it out there. Bill has stated there is zero performance diff b/t the old and new T48 plans. The difference is:

Old plans: Easier to build but driver mounting is a PITA. (I can wholeheartedly attest to that!)
New plans: More difficult to build (more small/angled pieces) but driver mounting is cake (Literally, drop it in and screw down from the front.

As daunting as it might appear, I have built the new version of T48 and I had zero problems. Just follow the directions to the letter, measure carefully and clamp up the assembly. Dry fit the parts and measure again. Glue, screw and wait. I let the assembly tighten up overnight before attempting anything else. I started building two at a time. By the time the first two were halfway, I started the next two. Things moved smoothly and I was methodical. Once the access openings were done, all four were at the same stage and were completed as a group.

Well there went 480 dollars for 2 3015lfs. Free shipping from parts express. They should be in within the week. The cabinets will be 24 inches because looking at more than just my outside gigs I won't have enough pack space and the 36s are looking to be a challenge to get indoors.

If it makes you feel any better, recommended retail where I am for a pair of the same drivers would be $1080AU

Never forget the cabs are only 24" deep, regardless of width. If you have to turn them sideways at the doorways, it's not like the cabs are so unwieldy that can't be done.
Maximise your investment in the drivers, if you can fudge the pack space somehow, build as wide as possible...

Did you consider buying from SpeakerHardware right there in Kansas? His price on those same speakers is only $460......and he's a good guy....and he's one of us....well, he may not claim that...
