Grado SR80i. I wear mine for 6+ hours a day at work, they pair perfectly with my phone and they sound better than any other headphone I have ever had on. They get a little uncomfortable after an extended period of time, but you should give your ears a break around that time anyway. Funny story; a friend of mine got a set of Beats (the $300+ ones) and he was bragging about how great they sounded, so I handed him my Grados and told him to have a listen. When he handed them back he said, "Those better cost $1000 because they are way better than the Beats". He wasn't too happy when I told him that I picked them up for $70.

Loving my Reloop RHP20s atm. Comfy fit, detachable cable, great sq... slightly bass heavy as they are dj phones, but this sounds like what you are after anyway, and great looks (not that that is important, but it's a plus anyway

Headphone wise I've tried numerous ones for DJ work a few nights a month to landscaping work 6 days a week. I'm not going to flame any of the ones to fail me I will however plug my latest acquisitions. . .

Pioneer HDJ - 2000, bloody sterling headphones, comfy, light, flexible like a Russian gymnast, sensitive like my wife and articulate regardless of the music (or simulated transformer porn > filthy dub I manage to track down) they hammer.

I power them directly from my laptop when searching out music. The business smart phone when I need distraction from noisy power tools or from my S2 when I'm DJing.

Possibly a wee bit north of your budget but worth every penny, if you hold off on the snack machine for a couple of weeks your savings could go into the headphones

not too much experience and maybe on the expensive side but I could recommend the Sennheiser HD600's, they do sound better than their newer and more expensive brother HD650, according to most people! maybe a bit smeary, but just by a small amount. check them out!

Although I wouldn't buy any of those he has in his top three picks. Maybe the denons. Just based on his reviews. I work with these /srh840 \ to remix sets for sound system testing and they almost match what I hear in the backyard. So they are fairly realistic. Of course there is a deadness to them because you can't feel the bass as you do with huge PA speakers.

There's also a few diy'ers out there doing some electrostatic headphones. Yes, like Martin Logan electrostatic headphones. There are pics of materials used and it takes a bit of patience/expertise! There is voltage around your head! So one would expect to be careful.

I have to back the Grados 80i. I have had Senny 497 for years which were awesome but a bit bass weak. Went to Ultrasone 480s, didn't care for them much. Detailed but just not quite great sounding sold them and went to the Grados, open sounding detailed, I can use my phone to power them too. Everything sounds good but dubstep and such. There is also a tweak but I haven't tried it, they have a thing called a G-cushion.

I've got the HDJ500's - a gift from the wife, they are pretty good sound wise but after listening for about 20mins I start to get a fuzzy ear so not the best for comfort at all.
