+1 on the sound check. I forgot you guys were DI, but it's still hard to mix while playing. I suspect the iPad is a great tool in that regard.

Actually, we used amps this time around - but we positioned them on the side of the stage facing in at low levels. I truly didn't hear my amp all night - the monitors are where I got everything. But, afterwards the other guitar player and I agreed that we may just quit lugging the amps and go back to running direct. The bass player will always have his amp for support - but I threw this together for him a couple of days ago so that he can work at lower volumes too by getting his cab firing at him.

He uses a Walter Woods amp, so I put the shelf on top to hold it.

It's all hinged and lays flat. I've already made a refinement to it and make some more to get it to lay back even farther.

And yes, the iPad will be invaluable when setting system EQ. The days of listening, running back onstage to the board and making changes - then doing it all over again 10 times are over.

When I run sound however, I still prefer the board out front - there are some moves that the iPad can't do. But, in a situation where you can't get the board out front - it's quite acceptable.

Bruce and his band are a talented bunch of guys. I really enjoyed their show as well as the other bands too. I thought the PA sounded excellent, especially considering the zero sound check and Bruce adjusting things on the iPad as everyone played. I got there early to shoot the breeze and help setup if needed and there was already an "opening opening act" playing. Just guitar and vox through a PA on a stick, but obviously that ruined any chance of setting up the RTA mic.

The stack of 4 T39s sounded superb. Very smooth with a nice, coherent sound to them. They weren't v-plated (not enough room) but stacked with the mouths together, 2 per side (all four mouths together). They weren't breathing hard at all and you still got a solid thwack in the chest at 50+ feet out.

I am burning the DVDs of the video I shot in Vegas (the program...not the city...) as we speak. It's up to Bruce what he wants to post. I will say that there is plenty of speaker porn in there, so I'm sure he'll grab a few stills from the video.

My thanks to Bruce and his buddies for the enjoyable conversation we had as well as their superb musicianship. It was a great evening!
