T18 with La Scalas...Surprise Surprise..

#1 Post by Billy Joe »

I've been subless for a few months after i sold my THT cab to help pay for repairs to my Hafler 500 amp. I kept the DVC driver for another THT. In the meantime i built a t18 to use with my computer/stereo system in the spare bedroom witch measures only 11x11. I know what y'all are thinking, and yes the sound did suck in there.

i finished the sub about three weeks ago, and i just could not get it to sound right, and i really wanted to know just how good it could sound. I thought man, i'm just going to hook it up to my La Scalas. Soooo off to the living room i went with t18 in hand got it connected to my Bash 300 amp, and dialed everything in. After playing some music i thought that this little sub sounds amazing, and it's actually keeping up with the La Scalas pretty damn good. Now i am thing that size doesn't matter...(i try to tell my wife that to) . I am impressed that this little sub can sound this good with two fifteen's in the La Scalas. I still plan on building another THT since i have the Dayton woofer, but maybe a narrower cab to take up a little less real estate.

Conversely, most folks typically don't know how much they can actually get out of their of La Scalas. Good placement with the right EQ and they don't require a sub for music at all. :ugeek:

In the 80's we used La Scala's for our band PA. Sounded very good. My perceived similarity(whether correct or not) of the Klipsch designs to the Fitzmaurice designs explains much of my affinity for the Fitzmaurice cabinets.

I've often wondered if there is more than a passing similarity?

KHorns and LaScalas are W horns, as are the DRs. The main difference is the rounded pathways that allow the DRs to run as 2 way rather than 3 way.

Having built two J10's, two Wedgehorn8's, and an Autotuba I know how well the designs work. Nothing like the feeling and experience of building it yourself. Further, the efficiency makes everything so much easier when dealing with power requirements. Once I get my Stereo 31 band EQ in the mix I have a feeling I will be even more impressed. Bill... Thanks again for the cutting edge designs and the associated benefits. Rickisan

Finally got a picture of the T18 with my La Scalas. My son was finally home long enough to help me :wall: I am still pretty impressed with the T18. although i don't turn it up too loud it does a good job filling in. I am planning on starting on another THT next month, gotta few honey do's to do first.
