dutch Titan 39

Finally started making the sawdust on my 2 titan 39's today.

Cut 4 sides, 4 tops, 4 bottoms, 2x baffle 2, 2x driver anchors.
Made a jig for the router to cut out the driver holes, after the first hole i made a new jig becouse the result was less than satisfying. Bad jig... nothing to do with me using the router for the first time in my life! Ah wel, thats why you buy an extra sheet of plywood.

Cut out 2 driver holes in the baffles and the anchors and ended the day with gluing the anchors to the baffles. Might have overdone it a bit with the glue... so tommorow after curing i can spend some time removing the excess.

Fitted the drivers inside the baffles today, one of the anchers must have been shifted during clampting down just a hair becouse the driver diddnt fit. Nothing some minor rerouting couldnt fix.

I glueed the panel 1 and the baffle in place on the first cab. Have to wait until tommorow for the second cab as i used all my clamps for this one.

Good progress so far. Everything goes a little quicker after you get the baffles taken care of.

How wide are you building the cabinets?

No progress this week due to a project at work that took al my time. But i have a day of tomorrow so combined with the weekend i hope to finish the raw build of these.

@ Shawn G. I made the panels as wide as the sides 19,5 inches (49.5cm) so together with the sides the total width will be ~52 cm.

The width was chosen becouse the non recommended driver i used (Fane Sovereign 12-500LF) Becouse its inferior compared to the 3012LF i decided to keep the panels the width of a BP loaded cab, although the Fanes have slightly higher xmax & vd.

Could'nt spend as much time working on my cabs as i wanted today.
Made interior braces for inbetween panel 4 & 6, 3 & 5 and 5 & 8. Made some simple jigs & tools to make and install bracing to help me with the second cab and any other future ones. Its amazing how rigid the construction gets when a few panels are glued together.

Yes, i use em as reference for spacing.

Today i placed panel 5 and 6... placed more bracing and cut some more panels. I was just going to route out the handles in the top/back as my router broke down The carbon brushes have worn out, just 5 minutes after al the shops closed.

Question:
Are the holes in the mouth braces for looks and/or weightsaving or do they have an influence on the sound?

Loving the new router that i bought this week, it seems to have much higher rpm as th old one. Made every mistake possible so far in this build. Cut angles wrong, messed my inch to cm calculations up but tonight ill get the mouthbracing in there and the last side panel.

To keep the braces solid will only add weight. You can reduce the weight by following the plans, or deviate by putting a design on the braces. Do you remember seeing a T60 (Drey) and a T39 with modified bracing?

nice to see some sawdust being made over here. I would be very interested in hearing them when you're finished building. going to be building some t48's and omnitop 2x12 myself in a while. would be nice to have heard an example of what titans are capable off.

nice build by the way, what kind of ply are you using I've been trying to find decent auroco but can only find hardwood ply and birch, guess i'm going to go with the latter.

Disco-inferno: I own a quartet of OT12 but they are too much for me to store and haul around. The bands I'm in have been on the backburner for too long now. So I am considering downsizing to SLA-pro (perhaps DR200, not likely due to lack of time to build). Get in touch if you are interested. It could save you quite some sawdust and time.

I have a quartet of OT12, a pair of Omni 10.5 (predecessor to Jack 10), a single DR250 (built for e-bass, but it does play regular music pretty well - and freakin loud for that matter), a pair of WH8, one AutoTuba and one T18.

There is another BFM member in Limburg. He has built at least several T48, 4x DR200, a Table Tuba and who knows what else.

I'm in for it as well. It seems most of you are in the south. I live nearly an hour north of Amsterdam, and with a day time job and a young family my spare time is rather limited so we'll see if I can make it.
