Jack 15
Jack 15
Got my Jack 15 with the 2515 fired up on Sunday at rehearsal and it really kicked ass! It's replacing a POS Behringer BX4210 (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BX4210A.aspx) that I sold to fund the 2515 purchase.
I'm feeding it with my Peavey Max Bass preamp, and I couldn't be happier. The Jack goes LOUD and LOW. I forgot to bring my multimeter to see how much juice I was actually giving it, but the volume pots on the preamp didn't make it higher than 3. The biggest problem with the Jack is that now I can actually hear how bad my bass technique is, and how much fret noise I'm getting. Not a problem with the rig; the bass player needs some work.
I stuck around for a little after everyone left and cranked the 40hz EQ slider and volume pots and wow! I played the 12th fret harmonic on the E and the ceiling tiles started jumping, and the lights started flickering. I didn't want to destroy my buddy's office where we rehearse, so I didn't crank it any further. I'll bring my DMM and check how much voltage I'm actually giving it.
We are playing a party in December, so I'll take some pictures then and give a gig review. Until then, I need to practice on my finger work! Thanks for the incredible design Bill.

Yeah, that's been mentioned before.ncgrove wrote: The biggest problem with the Jack is that now I can actually hear how bad my bass technique is, and how much fret noise I'm getting. Not a problem with the rig; the bass player needs some work.

Finally got the J15 2515 bass rig out to a show. It was a charity gig at a church, so that explains the background. I had the melded array turned off. Our regular drummer got called to Brazil out of nowhere for work so we had to go with a ringer on drums. He said he really liked the way the cab sounds and liked being able to hear it. I was more worried about blowing him away.
The show turned out well. Everyone on the stage said they could hear the bass well, which was nice. I didn't have it turned up loud at all. The signal light on the amp barely flickered.
Now I guess I just need to build 3 more so I can have a 4-stack like the rest of the Jack guys.

Awesome!
A 4 Jack15 stack? I think i need to start securing things to shelves with doublesided tape even though i'm 10.000 km away!

There aren't that many of us with FourJackStacks. It just seems like there is cuz I post that picture so often!ncgrove wrote:Now I guess I just need to build 3 more so I can have a 4-stack like the rest of the Jack guys.

I did refrain from posting it on this post, difficult as it was.

Especially not J115s! It'd just be massive then...Isn't your stack J110's? And that looks intimidating enough, I can't image a 4 jack 115 stackjswingchun wrote:There aren't that many of us with FourJackStacks.

Joke aside, I'd need a stool to get to the top of the stack. 2 Jack 12 is the maximum I'd ever need on a stage.

Re: Jack 15
4-stack of J15s is almost 8 feet tall! Not gonna happen. I want to build another one so I can use the pair for backyard parties, or maybe even stack them if the band ever plays a show in a big venue. Even then, having a 2-stack would be more for visual effect. I can't imagine the absolute need for more than one on bass guitar duty until we start playing in arenas...which is also not gonna happen.
I think two J15s per side of a medium stage would work pretty well if subs weren't practical for some reason.

Re: Jack 15
When you play large venues or arena's you won't need 2x 15's because you'll be pumped through the house system. More stage boxes = more stage volume and that results in a messy mix at FOH.

I have 2 unopened 2515's that stare at me and whisper to me while I sleep... LOL
Did not find a J15 entry in the SPL tool on the site, but to me and my naked eye, its SPL graph appears to be very much comparable to an 8x10 loaded with Alpha 10's (8x10 is strong 105db from 100hz on, J15 from 120ish hz on, the rest looks close), does that make any sense or my morning coffee was spiced by my coworkers?

Re: Jack 15
I guess my searching skills are below par
Ok, lets redo this:

Don't know why the graph on the 8x10 stops at 200hz, according to the comparisson with tens thread, the graph hugs the 105dB line from there on.
Ok, from this graph, a J15 kills the 8x10 in the 4th string's first few steps, but the bigger 8x10 gets too much advantage in the 60-110hz range, up to 5 dbs I think. EQ would put it in the same league?
I'd say "close enough", for a cab that size is quite an achievment!

Re: Jack 15
I am considering doing a jack 15 build and was wondering what type of sound it is comparable to? As we can see it compares well to an 8x10 but does it give that sorta tone? Or is it the more vintage mud bass tone (which I really like) that I get from my old 1x15 fender studio bass?
