Audiophiles. They are funny people...

#1 Post by 88h88 »

I've noticed during my relatively short existence on this forum that we gain some sort of sick satisfaction at laughing at audiophiles, those sort of people that unless minted will live off Ramen noodles so they can save up and buy their next 'upgrade' which will improve their system in their minds. They're a special brand and they seem more interested in equipment than music which is just all so depressing. I just read a trade show review over at diyaudio and the guy posted this underneath one of his photos;
...probably my favourite systems of the show, put together by... a cable manufacturer Clearer Audio. It kind of makes sense, I guess, as cables are all about the subtleties.
I know there are plenty of other people out there that think the same thing too and I'm wondering if I should be starting up an cable manufacturing company in order to cash in on these clowns.

I mean stuff like this: http://www.jpslabs.com/kaptovator.shtml

Image

$6099 per pair of 4' (directional) cables. I figure the most cost in those is the nice looking blue aluminium ends for the 'massively expensive' sheathing to fit into, maybe the clear spade connectors, I dunno, those run what, maybe a quid each or so? There's plenty of other extreme madness out there too, like that Italian fella who installed a massive sub in the floor of his listening room: http://www.royaldevice.com/custom.htm

Image

That's pretty insane in itself but look at the masses of other shit he's got in that room, the amount of cones in there would put your local roadworkers depot to shame. The best bit about this room though is the following which caught my eye:
The Royal Device Audio Room features 3 sub-atomic particle accelerators on SPDIF data transmission
Sub atomic particle accelerators? Weren't those the things the Ghostbusters carried about on their backs? I mean he's cleary having a little joke here, right? Even audiophiles have a sense of humour don't they?

Oh.

Wait.

IT'S A FUCKING TIME MACHINE! :loler:

Some dude made a 'time machine' which goes back and corrects the mistakes made in the studio at the time of the recording and sold it to this fruitcake, probably for many tens of thousands of pounds/dollars/goats. I am in the wrong business and you probably are too... We need to get in on this freakshow and make us some easy cash. Get back at me with your proposals.

The most curious aspect of oddiophiles is that they defy Social Darwinism. Being poor tends to be coincident with being uneducated, but oddiophiles somehow manage to be affluent enough to afford their curious toys while at the same time being clearly stupid to the core. :noob:

You could feed a village in Africa for 5 years on that lot; possibly more like a small country!

Some guys are more into cameras than taking photographs.

Penises.

:loler: They have a lot to do with these strange male OCD obsessions with misguided perfection!

Even Bill's speakers, amazing though they are, are a means to an end.

Do you think the makers of these devices are con men or are they just as delusional as their customers?

Con men with a vivid sense of humor who laugh all the way to the bank.

Or, as P.T.Barnum would have put it, if God didn't want them cheated he wouldn't have made them fools.

For those that haven't been around today, our very own resident oddiophile lasted less than 12 hours! I wonder if he really wanted to add tubas or was just trolling for a chance to wave his oddiophile flag.
BAT10, Bad Auto Tuba. Reverse folded TAT to fit JBL 1014D, 350W driver, voltage limit unknown.

^^^ I missed that, what was he chatting about?

Also I found these today: http://www.referencetweaks.com/products.htm

Miracle Wraps.

Our Miracle Wraps will make your audio system sound more musical and more relaxed. These Wraps will strongly improve your sound in all frequencies without changing the character of your set. It gives you a real great upgrade! Our products stand out by the application of a total new technique in the audio world: The T T L technique, which is a scientific formula in a revolutionary application. The main feature is the rebalancing on sub molecular level. This improves the conductivity and the signal becomes more clean. You will hear this!
It looks like rice paper, tape with logos on and shoelaces to tie it all up. But these re-balance on a sub molecular level. For 30 euros upwards. Bargain! I'm buying some for every single connection I have, doubly so for my BFM gear!

I respect those that like good sound, like to tweak and spend a decent amount on gear, but what really gets me is the ones that are really stuck up and will not give you the time of day if you even mention DIY.

He was piezo-bashing.
99% of the time, things that aren't already being done aren't being done because they don't work. The other 1% is split evenly between fools and geniuses.

In his last post he was member bashing, for which there is a zero tolerance.
