New Mixer Advice

One of the few entry level consoles that I would even consider other then the Yamaha and A.H. is the Soundcraft SI Compact...quite a nice unit with lots of Studer influences.

Donny, since you have the Lexicon already, use it and spend the extra money on a little better mixer. Buy it here and split the cost into 3 payments. You get a better mixer, with more effects and channels, at 3 manageable payments. If you find it cheaper at any authorized dealer, they will match it. And still let you make payments.

I'm also suspect of any effects that include "karaoke".

That's actually one of the better sounding delays...... I thought about painting over the name though....

That's the one I'm planning for, and I'm weighing the decision about the onboard effects or not. Being on board is super convenient and less patching up, but the MIDI control I'd have with the Lexicon is sweet too. I could change effects and mute and adjust in real time right of my keyboard instead of doing that from the mixer. Without effects it's only $380...that seems like ALOT of mixer for the money. I love the on board compression, but I'm likely going to use an outboard compressor/gate on the inserts for my and my partners mics like we used to do. I really like the gate and I like seeing the compression work.

The effects doesn't run up the price that much and will make it easier to sell in the future when you get the Presonus 16.4.2 (oh, sorry - that's my dream).

Ever consider used gear from Guitar Center? They allow easy returns if you have a local one, and their shipping is extremely reasonable. My 01V came from GC used, and it's solid, zero issues. I got both of my XTi 2000s that way, as well. I've also bought a Vestax VCI-100 that I modified for a friend... it was used and an insane deal at the time from GC. I've only had to take back one item that I've purchased used from them - a XTi 1000 amp - and they took it back no questions asked.

There's a couple MG166CX for under $200 from a quick search on their site. Shipping would be around $10-15.
