Great Combo - BFM DSR280s & SAC
Great Combo - BFM DSR280s & SAC
Great summer gigs with DSR280, origtinal Tuba 24 subs and the Software Audio Console. The clarity is so good, the splash pad and children 100 yds away were amplified perfectly. Next time, I'll find the breaker to the pumps.... New Crown xls lightweight amps are the perfect match for these cabinets. No more FOH board, snakes, tables for me! Dell Mini 9 with N wireless. People can't believe all that sound comes from those little boxes. A lady at a wedding gig the other night even tipped me $50, saying it was the best live sound she had ever heard!

The original Tuba 24. Just one per side for discrete bass drum & tympani, delayed to the front string mics for coherence. I use 2 per side or couple all 4 under the front of a festival stage, usually. Love the power they add to the mix. 1812 Overture cannons last year were insane!

Looks like a TOA HX5. Not a bad little box actually.James R wrote:What's on the tripod in the bottom pic next to the stack?

I am pretty sure that they are TOA. Now the question that remains is were the TOA's the main system and the DR's backup?
As a side note I have taken apart a few TOA's and was surprised by the low quality drivers that they use. In one TOA rear fill a replacement PE driver that cost $5.00 was far better then the original.

The hx5s are relatively high tech for TOA. They were installed in a church I upgraded to SAC and I had no trouble getting good sound from them. The install there was less than optimal (3 in a trap cluster style array) but we made it sound pretty even by working with the variable splay. They dont go to rock band levels, but they work well as designed... and the built in hf protection circuit works quite well (although you do have to power down the amp to reset it). In a low volume church where things must be flown (and BF designs arent an option) they'reon my radar, anyway.Ken Lustgarten wrote:I am pretty sure that they are TOA. Re: Great Combo - BFM DSR280s & SAC
Thanks for asking that, 67baja. It was something I wanted to know too. It was down my list of internet search odysseys bcs I gathered enough from the posts that SAC was for live sound applications.67baja wrote:Thanks, I'm not in the dark quite as much as I used to be!
However, it's great to know more now. Thank you for asking. (The only stupid question is one you don't ask, huh?) Thank you for the link Frederic.
I can't imagine how much easier SAC must make setting up live sound application mixes. No wonder you guys rave about it.
So let me now show my noobiness and ask...

How about SAC for recorded music, club and DJ applications? Or even a mix of recorded and live sound, say a scratch artist with a live bassist, for example? (I am building DR280s and asking about SAC so hope this isn't a threadjack!) [If so...Mr Moderator. Sorry.]
