Hello from Chicago

#1 Post by mikeratliff »

Ok so I am new to the site/forum but not new to the business though I have been out of the loop for some time. My experience includes design, install of pro-sound and production video systems. I have worked with X Array, VDOSC and some systems from Martin and Macpherson. I have done large and small concerts from metal to classical and all in between. All this leads to an idea....I hope to build and make available excellent audio systems for musicians starting out in the business. My mission is not to replace the biggies such as DB Sound and Gand Concert Sound. There are multiple companies to rent from but I am looking to fill a niche. So I got questions....I have always done my best to design systems on the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) principle. I have been researching all the manufacturers and their line arrays and I am amazed at the complexity, computer software to aim and calibrate systems and so on etc.. My question for now is, DR300, how does it measure up to say a Butterfly from Outline or the new Nexo rigs. I can read the SPL's and other data and I know that it will more than do the job for most if not all of what I plan for it but, having never actually heard a system based on the DR I need your input. I worked with Charlotte Church (7K seating on average) with a VDOSC and the clarity was phenominal. So how does the DR measure up to the ear not just on paper. Thanks and sorry for the wordiness.

You should fill in your location. Someone near you might be able to give you a listen.

And welcome!
