BFM vs Funktion one?

Hey, I've heard a lot of good setups with those cabs, and I wonder how Bills designs compare to them? anyone who have good experience with both systems who are willing to share their opinion?

F1 doesn't make line arrayable tops so there's no basis for comparison.

Line array may not be deemed as "necessary" by some but in fact will provide a superior audio experience in applications where it's traditionally not considered for use in most.

There are so many comparison points:

Application
Performance
Size
Weight
Total Cost of Ownership (outboard gear, DSP, amps etc)
etc.

I think there's enough data on this site that one would have to start with the specific application and work their way down the list of variable comparison points to formulate a data-based comparison.

To me a complete systems quality is a combination of performance, size and weight in its intend environment(application), which I've described as club environment.

Price set aside, which I guess would be no comparision

There's no comparison - it's like comparing a Lamborghini to a home-garage built rally car. Yes, they both go fast, have 4 wheels, and use an internal combustion engine, but it's a totally different league.


If you have money to burn and want a brand-name speaker system that you can use to promote your event/venue as having top-notch sound (even if it isn't really top-notch), then go ahead and waste your cash on Funktion One.

If you're not independently wealthy, and the way things sound is more important than the way they look (or the name brand recognition) and you're willing to take the time to build it right, go with BFM.



I'll put my BFM system up against a comparably-sized Funktion One system any time. I've done 2nd room sound where the main room was Funktion One, and that system beat me on volume, because it was easily 3 times the size, but everyone commented on how much cleaner, and deeper, my system was. (Of course, it could have been the fact that I was mostly sober, and the guys running sound in the other room were coked out of their gourds....) I also noticed that because of the line array vs. clustered point source technologies, I had much more even coverage from my system.

Some tome ago i have listened this F1 system:



This was R1 in some kind of "line array" on factory provided brackets for 3 R1 boxes per side.

I was seriously disappointing by uneven coverage of the system. This is one of worst systems i have ever listened. High frequencies response is different on every square meter. Drastically different sound even if you move only 1m to left or right or front.

If other F1 systems are like that, F1 is seriously over-hyped. Bills Otop12s has drastically better coverage. Seems that F1 puts all cash in marketing, not engineering.

It seems they've cannibalised the flying bracket there. I don't think F1 do any kind of horizontal flying system, or at least I didn't see one while I was working in their workshop! A properly arrayed and setup F1 system can sound fantastic and rate among some of my favourites but unfortunately I'm yet to hear a full BFM system so I can't really provide a valid argument. I just thought I would chip in about the bracket

Fair enough! I must say I've never played with the R1, only the R2, 4 and 5. It's a shame it sounded so bad, especially when you compare it to what they had at Glastonbury this year. That was with a new box for the high-mid and it sounded fantastic!
