Jack 10 for tailgating and bass

Jack 10 with the Beta 10, 6 piezo. Again with Arauco (I might actually be liking this stuff) because it was half the price of BB, which has gone up to $35 a sheet!

It'll be getting a strap handle and the Tripath TA2020 amp on the top. Planning on having a 12V SLA battery for the power source.

I need to get a $5 strap handle and it's really finished (well, after I get the amp from China). I'm thinking of placing a top hat in the bottom so it can serve as a backup cab.

This is the first demo of any of these that I've heard that wasn't taken from over 100' away or didn't clip the holy hell out of the camera mic. I really liked the way that sounds, and it makes me excited to start my build. The only problem is it makes me question my choice of a 210 over a 110. Now to clear the garage of 12 years of useless junk.

However, on the 210 vs 110, i'd take the two 110's any day. It might take an extra 10 hours to finish two cabs vs one, but the small size of the cab is one of it's great advantages, not to mention it becomes more versatile.

I was originally thinking of making 2 210's, which I could then use for loud or hella loud. I might also then be able to go with one as a bass cab and one as a PA in a pinch. This is still an enticing thought, but hearing that clip with its clarity at such low power makes me wonder if I should go two 110's and a 210 or just emulate the wall'o'jacks pic. Or just buy a CD and build one of everything and then decide what I need .

Either way would beat the piles o crap I have laying around now. One decent GenzBenz 112 combo (like it a lot, but the gig it was perfect for is no longer), a Peavey Combo 300 (like it sometimes, hate the weight always), and a Fender Bassman 10 (like the head, hate the attached honk machine cabinet, need to ditch the cab).

I really need to get the garage cleaned to get this going so I can stop second guessing myself. Hoarding FTW.

Heh, you could make one J210 and two J110. That way you have a small setup or a louder setup

I first cut the panels on Sunday night. Was trying to get it done for my gig Thursday night to test it out, but decided to let the glue and final coat of paint dry overnight. About 10 hours total to finish it.

Just do eet! You can poach the head off the Peavey and be set by next weekend.

As far as the video goes, I can stand those demo clips that peak out the mic just to "show" how loud these cabs get. I don't even really like how my clips sound, you get all kinds of weird phasing and camera/environment noise in the clips.

But I'm far more impressed with the sensitivity of these cabs than their total output. That's why I film the clips the way I do. I wish you could hear more of the low end, it sounds a lot better live than the camera picks up. I dragged it over to my bass player's house this evening, and he stole it from me. I'll do an update to the video with him playing a few licks after the holiday.

5V into the OT12 is deafening at close range. 5v into the Jack 10 isn't nearly as loud, but it has FAR more low end, too. Whereas you don't get the boom that you would from the subs, you get low end that's comparable to Yamaha Club 115s (IMO). Which, of course, cost twice as much, weigh twice as much, and take twice as much power to get as loud.

Forgive my ignorance on all things bass (like the fish) guitar... but do you have those wired in series/parallel or are bass heads typically 2-ohm stable? Or are they (gasp) 2 channel?

Edit: never mind, I see the XTi up there. What's above it?

Some heads are 2ohm stable. Peavey makes a lot of 2ohm stuff and Carvin has some as well. I don't cycle through amps like some do so I don't have a big list of what is 2 ohm capable and what isn't.

cheapbasslovin got it right on the Ashdown. I know you figured it out already, but yes the Jacks are parallel, two per side of the XTI.

VERY impressed by the Tripath TA2020 amp. For $20 shipped it's unbelievable. As a bass amp, it works, but it's just not enough power directly from a DI box. It does work, especially as a "practice amp". As a tailgating rig, this thing will absolutely rule. Maiden voyage tomorrow at the Georgia Force game - we'll see how long it lasts on a 12V SLA battery!
