Local Sourcing for Carpet and Pet Screen?

#1 Post by David Carter »

Anyone know what type of store might carry carpet and/or pet screen? Since I'm about to do my first build and have never used these materials before, I'd like to go take a look at them in a store before buying to see what my options are.

Thanks.
Dave

Built:
- Omni 10 (S2010 + piezo array)
- 2 x DR250 (DL II 2510 + melded array)
- 2 x Titan 39 (BP102 - 14"W)
- 2 x Titan 39 (3012LF - 20"W)
- 4 x DR200 (Delta Pro 8B + melded array)

Pet screen at a True Value hardware store. They can order it if they don't stock it. The small roll is enough for lots of boxes. lI think other folks have found it occasionally at the the big boxes.

Carpet, PE is about the only choice I know of.

Hi David,

I got mine at Home Depot. If I recall, you're building some form of Omni right? I've got a bunch left over from my build. Not enough for a screen door (which I'll need soon with a new puppy) but enough for a few more Omnis.

I'd be happy to send you some. Send me a PM.

PM forum member Larry Langford for the carpet. He's a dealer.

Years ago I re-covered an old Peavey bass amp using grey indoor/outdoor carpet sold by the foot at a hardware store. It looked like amp carpet, at least 1/8 inch thick, flat, with no pile. It looked good and held up great for at least a year of gigs before I sold the amp. But I have no idea if such a thing is still available.

Might want to look in the local phone book for a place that does automobile interiors or custom upholstry. another idea would be Graingers or McMaster -Carr. (I just got Catalog #113 with 3728 very thin pgs. heh heh heh) I'm sure that there are a few dozen builders who will tell you to fergit the rat fur and go with Duratex. Smells a lot better than the Duplicolor bed liner that Wally World sells. Easier to apply too.
There is no technical problem however complex, that cannot be solved or finessed by a direct application of brute strength and ignorance.

I don't have the option of spraying outdoors for the near future, so I'm going to do my new Autotuba in rat fur.
