What freq are you crossing them active?tcorder wrote:A follow up to my first review. I had intended to try to cut down on the weight of my amp rack by running the Otop 12s with passive crossovers and it worked very well until both the compression drivers in the cabs blew. I don't know why, very strange. I had 2 spare drivers, so I put these in and discarded the passive crossovers, yes, they were built correctly, put the amp back in the rack and ran the system 3 way again. WOW!!!!! It's a different beast yet again. Ten times as good tri-amped. They're louder, clearer and project further. All who play in or know the band commented on how good they sounded.
Nearly finished a pair of T39s, burning in the speakers at the moment. I'll post a review when they're finished and used.
As an aside, I'm stuck at my computer burning and printing CDs at the moment. Why is it that Bass players are the only ones who do or understand anything in a band?
I love u Zeriel

Re: First gigs with Otops.
I tried crossing them over at 2.5K and they sound just great. Haven't tried to RTA them yet but I might not even bother as they are just right as they are.

Re: First gigs with Otops.
They sound like a great bunch of guys. Get rid of them by leaving and find yourself another band. Our 5 piece shares everything in a democratic way. To me, liking the guys as people is as important as how they play.
Re: First gigs with Otops.
We do actually get on well and considering that the band is celebrating its 25th birthday in August it's probably a bit late to change now. Now that the CDs are done and I've calmed down a bit the advantages are becoming clear again. I get to do everything my way, diplomatically of course, Choose the P.A., BFM of course, and if the others don't like it, they really can't complain as they haven't contributed anything. Our guitarist apart from being lazy is very easy going and does what he's told and ALWAYS sets his volume and sound how I tell him too in the sound checks and never turns up in volume.
The drummer keeps trying to frighten us by suggesting that he could join another band if the amount of work we have doesn't improve, but a drummer with a double kit and no transport, who can only play like Keith Moon with timing issues and complains more than Victor Meldrew, us UK chaps will understand that one, swears at 4x4's, literally, and argues for the sake of arguing has little chance of finding anyone else who will put up with him. Oh, he also throws drum sticks at guitarists who make mistakes. He doesn't with our guitarist any more after he turned on him.
Together on stage we do perform well and the audiences love the Keith Moon act so it's not all bad.
As I do all the driving I get the best seat in the van and the benefit of the heater in winter.
Guess I'll stay where I am. Won't stop me moaning though.

Watch out that he does not pick up your bass. Apart from the lazy bit, he does sound somewhat like a bass player in denialtcorder wrote:guitarist ... .is very easy going and does what he's told and ALWAYS sets his volume and sound how I tell him too in the sound checks and never turns up in volume.

Re: First gigs with Otops.
No worries there, He play a nice light semi, a bass guitar would be too heavy not to mention that bass gear weigh a lot more than his AC30.
