If you want to rear mount you might want to make you back box bigger so that it goes around the baffle not behind it so that the drivers will fit. Mine also uses the Goldwoods I just front mounted everything. If you want them to be free standing might consider a base that sticks out the front 1.5-2 inches to make it less tippy.

Enjoy them when they are done I love them.

Thanks Leland, I just got the fedex status... look forward to getting them.

I have already built the cabinets. I will be test fitting the baffle this weekend. I like the idea of doing a minor recess for the speaker mounting.

The knot on the surface is acually the back side of the baffle. The concern is that on the webbing between the woofer holes is 1/4" or less of good wood. If I do not remove and epoxy the knot, the face of the web between the woofers will crack due to pressure and vibration over time. The holes for the tweeters are already rounded over. The only reason to surface mount the tweeter now is if I have some kind of clearance issue with the side of the cabinet.

I have some of the maple left over and I do intend on building a "foot" just as reccommended, thanks... especially with the weight of all the drivers, these will be quite heavy. It would be a shame to have them fall over.

So, is ther really any difference between "speaker gasket" and a high density foam tape/weather seal?

I picked up the finish for the SLA cabinets today. The piano Black style... holy smoke. This is no different than car paint. I picked up a gallon each of base black and the top clear coat, 3 litres of catalyst for the base coat, 2 quarts of catalyst for the clear (yes, they are different catalysts), 1 gallon of butyl acetate for thinner, filters and mixing cups. TCI for the piano finish chemicals is about $270.00. I still need tack cloth and prepsol. I also need to build a spray tent for dust control.

Egads, If I screw this finish up, I will be very disappointed in myself. All the more reason to spend more time sanding and filling until 100% perfect.

Many holes to drill and edges to flush cut this weekend.
