Why countersink screws?

Out of curiousity why do we countersink screws, if they are pulled out after the PL has set?

I can see why we drill piolot holes to avoid splitting.

Some of the plans mention to countersink deeper on end panels so you can round over with a router but from I gather, most people remove the screws.

Countersinking is only useful if the screws stay put. If you pull them out, then don't bother.

I countersink because a screw bit pilots and countersinks, and the bit won't drill the pilot to full depth without countersinking. A simple straight bit doesn't drill a good pilot as it doesn't make the hole larger at the top to fully clear the screw shank.

most definitely and you risk breaking your screws head with a pilot no countersink..

I countersunk my screws so far but after pulling the screws out it got me wondering.

The only thing i've contersunk was the four 8 screws for my sla baffles, but other than that, i never counter sunk anything and it does the job. Even with BB, I still didn't coutersink and never had any problems whatsoever.

You want to try unscrewing them, much easier than pulling them out.
