SLA DJ/Pro style
SLA DJ/Pro style
Ever like the sound of the SLA more than say an OTop? Ever like the idea of making one for DJ/PA use but how do you pole mount a TLAH Pro?
How about a SLA DJ/Pro.....
It actually sounds just like the SLA only MUCH BIGGER and Louder with upwards of 750 Watts RMS power handling.
We built this one and has been tested to 75 VOLTS input and found above say 400 you get so little except it starts to get harsh up top in the Tweets. But over 120 DB at 1 meter has been measured a couple of places (NO not done completely outdoors yet but...). It was unveiled at our Listening Party yesterday and received very well. Most thought it sounded VERY GOOD!!!
The only down fall compared to OTops is that it requires a bit more juice to get the volume all the way up but it sounds effortless and very VERY Clean like an SLA should. Best of all we left room for POLE Mounts. Been kind of thinking 2 of these and 4 Killer Bees (Double loaded T24s) as a complimentary set.

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

I like it!
I think around 6 of the $12 drivers from mcm would make a killer pro-sla on the cheap. Who knows, i just might have to try this as, like you, I REALLY like the effortless sound reproduction of my sla's.
Built:6 t39, t18, 4 Jack10, 2 autotuba, 2 SLA,2 wedge, 2 TT, 2 Tritrix, curved sla, 2 otop212, 2 SLA pros, Ported 8" sub, 2 ported 210, dual ported 8" sub

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style
The reason there is no SLA pro in the plans is that once you get a box past three feet high a transmission line works better than a sealed or vented box, thus the TLAH Pro.
Re: SLA DJ/Pro style
So what do they sound like? We've got video! *edit* That's two T36's working the bottom end. They aren't sorted out and that's why the bass is overwhelming. Take note of the saw-tooth synth and Gaga's voice detail easily distinguished from clear across the gymnasium.

sexy, regardless of how well it actually works. Care to hit us up with some specs (and build costs?). i'm looking for drivers for a pair of SLAs to double as HT/house party rig (paired with 2-4 ATs).

4x Otop12 d2512 loaded
8x t48s (18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30) 3015lf loaded
2x AT (1 mcm, 1 gto 804)
2x SLA Pro (dayton pa6, 6 goldwood piezo loaded)
1x bastard XF208
2x OT212 (delta pro 450a loaded, eminence psd)

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style
True Bill I would not argue that a TLAH Pro would not be a truly more capable design but packaging sometimes can be a consideration. The ability to pole mount these is very Nice.
Porting was in an attempt to tune for the drummer as a monitor. But past a few feet is really transparent and when crossed over at 100 does not effect the sound at all.
The drivers are a PDMW6 Pyle Pro for woofs and 12 Goldwood GT-302 tweeters.
$185 in supplies.

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style
I have no doubt that the TLA Pro would perform even better than these. However, these fit real easy in the truck along with T24s. I can use them for FOH, side fill monitors, drum monitor, etc. Kind of like an SLA Jack and I can leave the trailer at home. They are smooth just like an SLA should be and they get close to max output on as little as 400 watts. Ewetho's response graph shows it is several Db less the TLA Pro but for size and easy transport and versitile positioning I'll take it! They're just what I've been looking for use in small venues.

Also pretty dang strong down to about 70Hz too. Not real punchy necessarily but definitely present.
When trying to model it out searching for drivers the other driver I liked was the Alpha 6A. Both looked very promising for this application. But main driver cost was more than twice as much. Besides ain't it supposed to be the idea of the SLA to use inexpensive drivers?

Not everyone has room for a 6 foot long cab.
And for building a TLAH Pro with the Eminence drivers??
