Poor shipping from UPS

#1 Post by Charles Warwick »

I ordered a set of the MCM 8'' woofers last week and they arrived at my abode probably not quite as they left the warehouse:

I'll be calling MCM to inform them of what happened and hopefully we can get it straightened out since 3/4 speakers I ordered have bent frames. I honestly can't figure out what they did, as it looks like they poured black paint on the box and then jumped on it while it was wet.

We shall see how long it takes MCM to sort things out, hopefully before I'm ready to start building... :P

Pressed steel frames, heavy magnets, placed in a simple cardboard box with no padding, that's been MCM's style for as long as I can remember.

I also had 3 of 4 arrive with smashed frames.
Tomorrow I'm going to stop procrastinating - WB

Others have had the same problem. Apparently MCM is good for replacing the bent drivers. :)

Huh, I'm honestly surprised that it happens this often, but I'm glad to hear that MCM has replaced them in the past. You'd think if they got enough damages they'd invest in some better packaging, but I suppose if they are getting UPS to pay for the damages it doesn't matter much. I mean, that's what shipper's insurance is for, right?

Heh, that would make some sense. Although, sounds like a recipe for a bad day, exploded paint all over? Not my cup of tea.

Have you ever tried to file a claim with UPS or the postal service?? You have a better chance of winning the lottery

UPS won't cover that damage, because the package is not properly packed. MCM knows about the problem, which originates in China at the factory, as the driver boxes are inadequate. We complained about it for years, finally gave up. They will replace the drivers and eat the return shipping. If that wasn't the case I'd have dropped the driver from the recommended list.

I ordered 2 shielded 5 1/4" MIDS and one of them was dented/bent... they sent me 2 new ones ASAP for no charge and did not ask for the old ones back. Just call them and they will take care of you! :fingers:

It is possible to bend the frames back too. Cut a piece of 3/4" plywood as if it was a baffle spacer, sized to fit the driver frame on the inside, with a ten inch diameter on the outside. Cut another piece of plywood also as a ten inch circle, use the two to make a driver 'sandwich', with C clamps pressing the frame back to flat. If you do so without coil rub you're good to go.

What exactly do you mean by coil rub? The voice coils rubbing? I'm a little confused :conf:
