Liquid Tape for...

#1 Post by DanielNY »

Here is one stop solution for sealing piezos and also giving a protective coat to those bare wires when your done wiring those arrays.

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1MPY3

I used this stuff on my melded arrays to seal the assembly and also insulate the bare wire once I was done wiring/soldering. This is similar to plasti-dip but its a brush on version and it is liquid enough to get into all those little spaces/ it also dry's with good time. It bonds to metal and plastic alike and can't be rubbed off like rubber cement. I used black which also gives your arrays a nice finished look on the backs as well.

I found this stuff available at an auto-parts store and one can will cover a full array, maybe even two. Give it a try you wont regret it. It works so well you better be sure your 100% before you seal everything.

Great idea! Next time I have to build a melded array, I'll definitely check it out.

cool Ill try some, thanks. fwiw I've used pvc glue for 2 arrays now, doing 1 row at a time, finished with black acrylic paint brushed on,piezos attached. very seamless. I intend to wire up with 22 gauge solid copper, and rattle can the entire backside..

For those that have a Harbor Freight Tools near them, they carry brush-on and a spray-on version. Prices vary as does availability, but should be much cheaper than Grainger's.

I didn't realize there was a spray on version, this stuff is awesome.

I picked up White liquid tape from home depot for $5.49. The white on black contrast will make it easy to see any holes or spots that didnt get sealed peoperly.
