Re: Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
Nice! If only I hadn't already strapped down my parts in a layout an inch wider than the plate... haha. I managed to get it on the side where I wanted it... couple screws on the close side, right by the large coil, and it's way more sturdy than I thought it would be.

Re: Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
What's an easy way to mount a crossover into a Wedgehorn? Putting it on the access panel would be simple, but I'd prefer not to have wires connecting it to the rest of the cab. The side panel with the jackplate would be ideal, but the proximity of the horn side makes driving screws just about imposs...

Capacitor polarity
I'm putting together my crossovers and realized that the plans (and my parts) mention nothing about component polarity, as if it doesn't matter. But a quick google search regarding capacitor polarity provides all kinds of ways to identify the positive and negative leads... none of which apply to my ...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Sounds good as well... running the board a little lower like that means each channel strip is farther from clipping too which is nice. I think it's quiet enough... Yamaha MG24/14FX. Occasionally borrow my friend's PreSonus StudioLive too (which is an AMAZING value by the way). So if I have a voltmet...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Haha, well it should sound equivalent to 1800W going through a conventional 99dB cab. Good news for the circuit breakers anyway! So basically I could set my DriveRack limiter at say +14 dB (that lets it limit clean input by 6 dB since it's input stage clips at +20). Play a 60 Hz sine wave from a CD ...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
http://eminence.com/pdf/kappalite-3012lf.pdf "Watts 450W / Music Program 900W" - The limiting should be at which of those? I also read somewhere that some people exceed their Xmax by 10% on subs since the distortion isn't a big deal, and the Xlim is still a safe distance away. Any truth to...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
EDM = electronic dance music, i.e. synth kick/bass instead of acoustic. My apologies if this will be addressed in the plans, but what do I need to know regarding amplifier power for the T39s and DR250s? In the past with conventional speakers, I've always followed the "2x the program rating"...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Measuring a V-coupled pair from left corner to right corner is like measuring the hypotenuse of a square having a side length of 39"+19.5" therefore sqrt(58.5^2 + 58.5^2) = 83 total width across the stage. Yes, I will do it whenever possible. But certainly I will run into a situation with ...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
If your stage is more than 8 feet from the wall, you can just stack your subs up stage left or right, in a vstack. Sounds good. But if the stage is small and doesn't have room for a V (that's 7' x 3.5' of floorspace for T39s if I know my geometry) and the Titans will be forced upright, should they ...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Makes a whole lot of sense now, thanks for that. I do have a pair of Proline stands laying around, so they'll be recommissioned. At the end of the day, the sound matters infinitely more than the look. At the beginning of the day though, well, I'll get through it by spreading the knowledge! I do have...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Cool... that older graph was a main reason for my original hesitance in dropping from 48 to 39. The extra 5dB in the "beef" thanks to the kappalite is very reassuring. Hopefully Bill has a moment to update the chart for others in my situation. I think I am now ready to buy some materials o...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Ok cool. Just to go back to the graph for a second... why is the 30" T39 so much better in this graph than on http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/T39.html ? They seem to refer to the exact same cab, but Former: 100 @ 43 Hz and 105 @ 65 Hz Latter: 100 @ 65 Hz and 105 @ 85 Hz (maybe a pre-3012LF drive...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
Wow, the line for the 30" T39 rides right between the T48s which I didn't realize previously. Are those graphs averages of a few builds or world records? Regardless, I'm definitely set on T39s now, 39x30x19.5. Since 2*19.5 will fit the width of the van easily, I can go for max cab width (fillin...

Re: New to BFM, planning a medium-venue system
You guys have me convinced on the low end. But even disregarding the low extension, there seems to be way more sensitivity on the 24" T48s between 60Hz-90Hz (107dB) compared to various T39s. Eh? Seems like I should put the DRs on sticks downstage and put the subs separate wherever the corners o...
