Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
Specifically comparing circuit designs? My first Jack was a hair-rending experience trying to make the transition from a schematic to a physical design.
Since then, I've designed a board layout that I think is fairly space efficient and can accommodate both the LF and HF sections. Before I make it, I'd like to have folks take a look, and maybe even use it themselves if they like. Is it ok to post diagrams or is it forbidden like cut sheets?

There's nothing about our crossovers that can't be discussed, they already have been, and layouts have been posted.kynetx wrote:Specifically comparing circuit designs? My first Jack was a hair-rending experience trying to make the transition from a schematic to a physical design.

Here's the layout I used. The component values for the LPF won't match because this is for a DR200 with a 16-ohm driver, but the number and type of components should be the same. I'd be interested in seeing what you've come up with.kynetx wrote:Specifically comparing circuit designs? Re: Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
This one I drew out last night. I have access to scrap epoxy board without any conductor on it. This isn't really to scale, but as close as I could get it from memory.
I arranged it in a sort of "buss" configuration with the positive and negative busses going down the sides with 16 awg solid so I could get everything on one board. Please excuse my sloppyness.

Re: Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
In your drawing, it appears that the HF pos. and neg. both are attached to the neg. rail. Unless the one leg from the 4 ohm resister is not attached to it...hard to tell.

Here is my plan for the DR 250 LP/HP crossover. It seems like I have fewer connections than David so I'm not sure I have this right. I would greatly appreciate any feedback.David Carter wrote:Here's the layout I used. It's not. My drawing skills are lacking.tammojsmit wrote:Unless the one leg from the 4 ohm resister is not attached to it...hard to tell.

Am I correct in assuming that the Low Pass Filter and the High Pass filter are completely independent? They could be placed on separate mounts located apart from each other within the cab, but it is more convenient to put them all near each other?kynetx wrote:It's not. Cheater. Once I start to get some money out of these monitors I may upgrade to your pre-builts.LelandCrooks wrote:![]()
Dr.Doug- You certainly have the option to make these on one or two boards, the choice is yours. I'm trying to go with a single-board design to save space.

Re: Is it kosher to discuss the crossovers?
One thing that would be interesting to know is the size of each of these boards. I know you can sort of get a sense by looking at the pic, but it would be interesting to know actual dimensions. When I was building mine, space was a huge factor as I was trying to fit them on the inside of a DR200 access cover. Therefore, the board my filters are mounted on is 5" x 4" (inches).

Nope. Not that smart. But I know how to find stuff, modify it, and buy it right.
