3012 speaker distorting
One of my Jack 12's has developed some distortion. Sounds like a heavily cranked tube amp all the time, on all notes, even at low volume. The other Jack is fine, so its either the driver or the cab, and not the signal chain. They are straight bass cabs - no array, no filters, no casters, etc. And th...

Re: Pre/power or head? O15 bass cab
Depending on the kind of sound you want.... You might find a used Ampeg SVT3 for around 400 - 450, maybe. These are good heads, mine has been dependable for about 10 years now, although I don't use it much anymore except for a backup. For a power amp setup, you could go with a VT Bass pedal straight...

Re: WAVES MAXX BASS for bass guitar with Jacks 12
I've got basically that same rig - Alembic F1-x, XTI2000, into 2 Jack 12's with 3012HO's. Its been run pretty hard at a couple of outdoor gigs recently with no problems at all. Sounds pretty damn fine too.

Re: Crest E-lite debuting
Yeah, but they have different service centers for warranty work.Zack Brock wrote:Crest is Peavey, they integrated their companies a while back.
Several places I called do warranty service on Peavey, but they are not allowed to do warranty service on Crest.
Same parent company, different rules.

Re: Crest E-lite debuting
For what its worth, I had a Crest CC2800 go bad on me last weekend, still under warranty. Two years old, light use, and it started tripping the breaker as soon as it is turned on. I've called Crest Tech support 3 times, left 2 voice mails, and emailed them 3 times, trying to find out where to go for...
Re: Crest CA4
I've got a CA6 and a CA9, used them both on bass and PA for several years, never a minute of trouble from either one. They are heavy, and do not have Speakon connections. Other than that they are good amps. Actually, they are great amps until the time comes to move them. So if you don't mind the wei...
Re: Jack 12's
That I can't tell ya...I'm used to bass cabinets without tweeters, so I don't miss what I wasn't hearing anyway. A small array and the filters are easy to add, and I had that in mind when I built these, but haven't seen the need to add them yet. If you are wondering about being able to cut through t...
Re: Jack 12's
More of a Carl Thompson influence than anything else.
The bridge is a Hipshot model that is made to be a replacement for Gibson bridges - its a bit heavier and bulkier than I would like, but it added a nice look with the extra curves...a little something different.

Re: Jack 12's
The fretboard has a relatively wide bloodwood binding. This might show it a little better.
I've since replaced the ebony knobs with amber speed knobs, they look much nicer, color-wise.

Re: Jack 12's
The grill is the 5/32 material from Reliable Hardware, custom cut to order. A bit expensive, but it looks good - from a side angle you can definitely see the grill in place. Connectors are 2 combination Speakon / 1/4 inch on each cabinet (from MCM - Leland doesn't carry the combo jacks, but told me ...
Re: Jack 12's
It's an oil based enamel from Sherwin Williams, custom tinted to the 'Yam' color with the grit added on the 2nd coat, then 2 more coats on top. I was going for a tweed look, but the first color looked way too yellow so I had them darken it up and it came out looking like an Orange cabinet. Not what ...
Jack 12's
Thought I'd share my new Jacks. Hopefully the pic will load OK. Anyway...they are loaded with 3012HO's and sound great. Very clean sound, cuts through the mix like crazy. They should take whatever the CA6 throws at them, but I've never gotten it above halfway in the basement due to the house rattlin...

Re: DRPA+ setup
I have the following turned off EQ, sub synth, etc. As soon as I turn the limiter to ON my voltages drop considerably. The voltage is nowhere close to what everyone recommends, even for half power. Then if I decrease the threshold the voltage drops even more. Is this what is to be expected, or am I...

Re: DRPA+ setup
So after doing some more reading, it looks like the limiter "Threshold" is what limits the signal Is this correct? Yep, you need to make sure your DRPA has EQ, sub synth, etc. turned off, and play pink noise through the amp with speakers disconnected to see how much voltage your amp puts ...

Re: DRPA+ setup
Most people here recommend a 'brick wall' type limiter. Since the DRPA limiter isn't a brick wall, the closest you can get is to turn the Overeasy setting off. Or at least turned down to 1. I keep mine on 1, and never hear anything bad from doing so. Why 1 ? - I dunno - the manual isn't clear on whe...
